Found a cool place for budget build parts...

I think most of it comes from China. Be careful, I ordered a neck from here once for a cheap project and it ended up as firewood it was so dreadful!

Battered old bass needs some fixing up

Leave it as it is, it will be a constant reminder and a talking point. :)

Safe way to clean adhesive from tortoise pickguard?

Lighter fluid or WD40 will work.

    Swapping out necks

    Don't do it!!

Has anyone tried a neck from this E BAy seller?

I'd be careful. I got a cheapy once similar to that, not from this seller, but it would not fit the neck pocket because it was too wide and the corners of the heel were too squared. If you're in any doubt, leave it alone and get an allparts/mighty mite/warmoth or anything licenced!

Did the who smash their bass at shows?

Yep, he had two, he smashed the wrong one and didn't realize until he'd done it!

2x10 extension cab for Peavey Combo 300 Suggestions?

Whatever you choose make sure its 4 ohms or you won't get all 300 of the watts and the signal will be imbalanced mainly going to the 15" inside the combo (path of least resistance). I would stick with a Peavey extension Cab, they are good value for money! Like Rickenboogie says though, its not...

    Hardening Rosewood Fingerboard

I have a MIA Fender Jazz Bass American Deluxe Fretless, with a rosewood lined fingerboard. Unfortunately I like using Roundwound Steel strings (allergic to nickel) which I've been told are not good for rosewood as they wear the fingerboard. Does anyone know of a suitable oil that will...

    Modified Harley Benton 1975

Considered and ordered that very bass myself. I needed a spare JB and having tried the Squire VM I thought it was a bit pricey for what it was. My dad (who has worked in the guitar business for over 40 years) has told me that most of these Harley Benton instruments are made for brand names...

Why didn't Gibson and Epi basses catch on?

Last year I needed to get a new bass urgently, for gigging as my MM Sabre needed to spend some time in the bass hospital due to years of use. Without a whole lotta cash I tried the Squire Jazz and Jaguar basses, found them light in tone and weight and lacking that certain oomph I'm used to from...

whats new in onboard Preamps ?

I've just fitter the ACG pre into my Jazz. Every tone you'll ever need and more. My only gripe (and its a small one) is that its a bit noisy with the treble stack boosted. You might find its got too many possibilities, it can be tricky to dial in the right frequency on the bass stack because of...

Bass Amuser tube dist DIY pedal anyone?

Are there any instructions in English? The link from the site where you buy the kit is only in German. I'd be really interested in trying this pedal if there were English instructions. :bassist:

S1 switch on Fender American Jazz bass

Its personal taste I'm sure, but I have always added a 'henry switch' (series/parallel switch) to my basses with 2 PU's. I love the sound and I particularly love the look on the guitarists face when I bring it in for his solo. I have a Musicman Sabre which had a phase switch, I replaced it...
