You're right, it is definitely on the muffier side, but I've got some great grinding tones from it. But maybe not the range of that type of tone as you'd get from a better-suited pedal. Hopefully the Guv'nor is a winner.
Cool, thanks. I'm quite sure I'm going to go with a set of those SRB's. I'm not sure if string spacing will be an issue for me. I'm gonna have to measure it up because I might have to go with DiMarzio's Will Power humbucker at the neck (they have different spacing) and the SRB at the bridge...
Might I suggest the Wren and Cuff Tall Font Russian? I have to run a bass graphic EQ pedal after it to fatten out the bottom end, but it's a pretty great dirt tone.
Also, will be picking up a Marshall Guv'nor in the next week. I'll hit you back with my thoughts.
What was it you didn't like about them? I'm looking to try out the SD Rickenbacker neck pick up. How does it go for aggressive tones? I want something gnarly I can push through my pedal board.
I picked up an Eastwood Airline Map in white a few weeks ago and I love the look of it. It makes me feel Robert Levon Been-kinda mean.
It's probably the only bass I can deal with in white, except for Fender basses if they have a good scratch plate.
I like wood finishes, but not with black hardware. If it had silver hardware and a slightly less hardcore wood grain, I'd be all over it like a fat kid on a cupcake.
It depends what you already play. If you have a good understanding of the blues scales and progressions, and if your band members aren't too hardcore, you should be okay.
I've never learnt music theory, no one in our band has except for our drummer, but we can communicate with each other and...
Would love to know how this mod goes for you. I'm picking up one of these pedals in a week, but I doubt it will compete with my other dirt pedals so I might give it a bit of a leg up.
Never soldered a pedal before, but done a few guitars, and really keen to give it a go!
Wren and Cuff Tall Font Russian, followed by a cheap bass EQ pedal to fatten out the bottom end. A fantastic, edgy tone that sounds great around the middle of the bass neck, particularly with a pick.
