I just bought a Squier MB4 and it's a great bass except for one thing: if it is plugged in and the cord moves at all, the bass cuts out. I suspect it's a bad jack as I had the same problem with my Telecaster and I can't see any wires that aren't connected. It's a weird jack. I've never seen...

This guitar is so nice that I wonder if it wasn't one of those experimental guitars that Fender is constantly building? A guitar that if it sold well, it could be converted to a Fender ala Squier/Fender '51 with a few added features and upgraded parts.

Here is my new Squier MB4 bass. It is made of agathis, has both P and J pickups and has a neat blend knob with an indent in the middle for controlling the pickups. It's not a traditional Fender model, it's a modern bass that is more like to an Ibanez or Jackson than to a Precision or a Jazz...

The chance of gigging with it is admittedly very small. I'll probably use it to jam with my stepbrother (no drums) so I don't need that much power.

BTW I neglected to mention that I live in a tiny studio apartment, and size is an issue. A small combo amp is what I'll be getting. Can I get something decent for under $200? Like I said, I'm probably not going to gig with it, just play by myself and the occasional jam session.

Thanks. That's kind of what I thought. I won't be turning it up very loud at all, so I should be ok. If I have to, I'll cut the bass in the EQ so as not to ruin my speaker.

I have a little Park 20 watt amp. I'm going to buy a Squier '50s P-Bass in a couple of months. Will it hurt my amp to play the bass through it at low volume? I'm not going to be gigging with it or anything like that, just practicing at my apartment. If it will hurt the amp, why will it hurt it?
