Problem with output jack on Squier MB4

I just bought a Squier MB4 and it's a great bass except for one thing: if it is plugged in and the cord moves at all, the bass cuts out. I suspect it's a bad jack as I had the same problem with my Telecaster and I can't see any wires that aren't connected. It's a weird jack. I've never seen one like it. I could attempt to take pictures I suppose, but I don't know if they would come out or not. Does this sound like a bad jack or something I can easily fixed? I can provide more information about the bass if need be.

Try gently bending the hot clip in to make better contact with the plug

It is a bit of a weird jack. From the way it looks, your need some sort of socket to remove the nut from the inside to get it loose. Is it easy? That is the one of the few things I haven't messed with on that bass, so I wouldn't know. Pictures probably wouldn't come out good unless you hada good flash, since the back cavity is "shielded" and dark. My fear is the stripping of the outside part of the jack as I would try to grip it with a pair of pliers or something while removing the inner nut.

It's things like this that keep my curiosity in check, and my constant need to take things apart and try to put them back together. I have nice basses, I don't wanna f@#$ them up too bad.

These are a closed design and I've found that they are best replaced when they go faulty - and they do regularly (I've had trouble with every jack like this I've encountered).

You can replace it with the same one again (it's the last one on this page Link Removed) or you can replace it with a 'football' style jack plate and regular 'skeleton' jack socket.

The latter method should last forever but will require the side jack hole in the body to be enlarged
