Is this bass being discussed anywhere?

Anytime something like this pops up I’m always suspicious that it’s just not a very good bass. If it’s been around that long and hasn’t been played it just doesn’t feel right. I know that’s not necessarily true in the slightest. That jazz looks killer.

In a weird coincidence, (if there's any such thing...) I saw an ad for a totally unrelated bass, in that exact same pose, same background. Sure enough, same dealer. Hyperinflated price on this one too.

You'd think somebody dealing higher-end guitars could afford a guitar stand.

If legit, it's a true collector's piece. I'd be afraid to pick it up (only because a drop could cost you thousands).

Seems like there are a bunch of early 60's Jazz basses on Reverb right now. Why discuss this one?

The one on the right selling for 23,416 actually has some interesting provenance. It was owned by the late Russ Stableford, who played on a a load of late '60s hits and TV shows. In the '70s he was the main bassist on the Muppet Show. Sadly the shop selling it are incredibly disorganised, and they either forgot to ask his family about the provenance of the bass, or did so but never bothered listing anything in their ads. They also are incredibly bad at updating their website and Reverb page, so it could have sold months ago. It's a shame really as they have some great stock, build great basses and do great repairs, but their communication is dreadful.

Well, arguably this one is more rare, and if legit it's sort of fascinating museum piece, being one of the very first 3 knob Jazzes.

The one on the right in the picture I posted also has three knobs and the neck is stamped August '61.

It’s beautiful. I particularly like seeing the same initials in the heel that my 10/61 neck has. I always wondered who “R” was. And who marked the date with a “-“ dash, vs. “/“ slash? Are they different people or did “R” change up how they mark dates? !!!

But mine isn’t as untouched and pristine as that exemple. I had to refin the old crap refin on mine

I never realized there was a market for $30K production Fender basses.

There apparently isn’t. It's been listed for 3 months with no bites. Typical Reverb.

Nice bass, though, but not $30k nice.
