What Bass and Amp did you use in the 70's

66 P Bass with Rotosound strings - still have and love. Kustom PA head with tuck and roll - still have. Fender Bassman 2x15 cab which was huge and heavy and filed the back of the Ford LTD I was driving, which I sold in college. Those were good sounds and times. When my generation finally dies...

    Treating Tinnitus?

Tinnitus is a complex condition and can have many etiologies, so there are many different therapies which might work. I am an Internist in my real life, but love playing Bass for fun. Treatment can be broken down to some broad categories. First- Behavioral therapy which includes the subsets of...

Difference between Hofner verythin vs 500/1 in tone?

    Has no one played both?

Difference between Hofner verythin vs 500/1 in tone?

So I have a 64 reissue 500/1 and love its tone but was looking also at the verythin reissues and did not know if there was enough difference in tone between the 2 models to consider adding the verythin. Other models I was looking at include the Coronado or an older Gretsch. Should I just be...

    '59 Bassman for Bass?

If it was the tweed look and Bassman name you were looking for, and not an original, the Bassman TV is a very nice alternative. I have a TV 12 that I play a P Bass through and it has great tone and volume. They also made a more powerful TV 15 and a 210. They stopped making them a year or 2 ago...

How could the people at Fender be so clueless?

Thank you Rob for posting here. I have appreciated your responses at the Fender Forums, so I am glad to see you posting here as well and I think you present a calm and rational response to various Fender questions. I echo Tdizzles response, and think between people such as yourself and the self...

Do you still have your very first bass?

Yes. A 66 Fender P Bass I bought in 1968. Still my main player.

Double Bass We can all shut up now....

While the children are inspirational, what floors me is the craftsmanship that can take an oil drum, meat cleavers, etc. and create instruments that sound so good! The luthiers and teachers are the real hidden story, as they wish the children to get the recognition. They all are fantastic...

    Fender Bassman 100T - chapter 2

In the months since I bought my winged C's I have had no more troubles- so I deduce the problem was in the tubes. I am very sorry to hear they might be closed. While for a time we can buy NOS, when that gets scarce, what do people think is the next best replacement. I do love the tone of the...

Anyone else LOVE pickup covers on P and J basses?

I am with you. I have 3 Fenders all with both covers. I play the way I learned back in the 60's with my fingers anchored on the tug bar , my palm resting on the pup cover and plucking with my thumb over the bottom of the neck. It gives me the tone I love, and the basses look beautiful.

    Fender TV Bassman 12?

I have a TV12 and a 100T and I really love my TV12. It doesn't have the range of my 100T but for vintage sound it is fantastic. I am sure you will love it.

Fender AV '62 P players: How's that neck?

+2! The Neck is very easy for me, but the pickups are better than my 66 P Bass. A great Bass.

    What are these things called?

Oh come on Millsbass5, I have played since 1968 with my tugbar, with my ashtrays not worrying about any "look" plucking with my thumb, and doing just fine, thank you. I do not need your or anyone else's assumptions about why I like vintage style- it's because that's the way I like it. If you had...

    Poll: Fender Bassman 100-T reliability

After about 6 months my only issue was with the tubes. the Groove Tube in slot 1B went out. I only get to play my amp on the weekends, low volume, 25 W setting, cool bias- so it wasn't that I was driving the amp too hard, it was a premature failure of that tube. I replaced all 4 with Winged C's...

    *******THE LONE WOLF CLUB**********

After 40 years of being a Lone Wolf, my status will be briefly interrupted as my old bandmate and I are going to play for our 40th high school reunion. It has been interesting as we used dropbox to send recordings back and forth to each other. Since we live 1000 miles from each other we won't...
