Anyone else LOVE pickup covers on P and J basses?

None of my basses currently have them but I have had covers on the neck pickup. Didn't bother me and looked pretty cool!

Does the bridge cover require removal for string changes? I've never had one.

Depends. On the Precision basses like the OP's, and on Jazz bases, yes, you would need to remove the covers to restring. On a Bass like Solarman's Squier CV 50's (post #7), Telecaster basses and the original early 50's P-basses, no, as the back end is open on those covers.

I LOVE the look, but that’s pretty much where the love ends.

I don’t have covers on any of my Jazzes because they impede my playing style. But my Precision has both covers installed, and I don’t mind them at all on that instrument.

:D

Love the look but had to remove them from my 77 P. They just seemed to be in the way. Your red Precision is the coolest looking P I've ever seen by the way.

I am with you. I have 3 Fenders all with both covers. I play the way I learned back in the 60's with my fingers anchored on the tug bar , my palm resting on the pup cover and plucking with my thumb over the bottom of the neck. It gives me the tone I love, and the basses look beautiful.

Well I tried, I really did but in the end love the look but can't deal with the covers.

Also briefly had bridge cover on my 57AV. Problem I found was palm muting. Can't really get your palm close enough to the bridge.

Also played a couple of the NAV Jazzes. No way I could play comfortably withe the larger bridge cover on there.

BTW, I mounted the ones in photo with double stick tape. Great way to test if you like it without drilling holes!

Are those inlay stickers? I hadn't seen the bass since you added those. Personally I think they look out of place a little but I love everything else you did to it :)

I'm not a huge fan. They get in the way.

Thanks - yes those are stickers. Everyone hates them, including my wife who told me so before they even went on the bass.

I'm still trying to figure out why I like them.

:)

Love the look! I force myself to play with them on at practice sometimes, but usually not at gigs since I'm more comfortable with them off. The band usually comments on how rad my basses are whenever I have the covers on. In fact I think they think I have more basses than I really do. ;) My Ps always have a bridge cover on though.
