    What's your gig and why?

I chose very local bar scene. We're not opposed to doing weddings or private parties, but it is very hard to get all of us in the same room on a day that we don't choose ourselves. I also sub in at church fairly regularly.

Bands that host jams, how long do you play?

Around here, the host plays 3-5 tunes to open - depending on how full the sign up sheet is, then 3 tunes halfway through the night, and usually a closing tune.

    What's your favorite coffee?

    Strong, dark roasted.

    Used PA Suggestions

I've only skimmed this thread, but I'm surprised that there isn't a lot of love for Yorkville gear. It's affordable and pretty much bullet-proof. Our band runs a pair of YX-15s as mains, and two YS-112s and a YX-10 as monitors - they've been great and didn't break the bank (I think less than...

If You Could Only Listen to Music from One Decade? Poll Added!

I like live, original music and I can't afford to go to the big "nostalgia shows", so that pretty much leaves this decade.

If you could be in a tribute band...

Doug & the Slugs. (Yup, I'm Canadian. Sorry.)

Canada Am I the only Canuck here!?

As have I. Just noticed this thread - I'm on this forum from time to time, but not nearly as often as I'm on the Other Forum.

Do you collect anything OTHER THAN bass/music gear?

Beer bottles. Which are on display in my "studio" - which leads to students giving me exotic beer as Christmas and end-of-year gifts. :-D (It's an old picture, but you get the idea.)

Inexpensive tuner replacement for my nephew's Yamaha RBX170. Stock plastic key broke off.

I had pretty much the same problem. I replaced the whole set with open-backed Wilkinsons. They were $20 each including installation - so the set cost more than the bass, but they've been great.

    Practise amp

I practice through a Bass Driver DI into a small PA at home with an old 12" Yorkville wedge; which is pretty much what I do live, except that the PA is bigger (same wedge). For rehearsals I use an old Yorkville AM50 acoustic amp - works pretty good, but I'm not moving a lot of air. Good thing...

Double Bass Any Tuners with Battery life and better than Snark SN's?

I don't have a problem with battery life in Snark tuners, but when they die, they die pretty quickly. Not a big deal to carry spare batteries in my case though.

What inspired you to play bass?

Inspired? Someone asked me to and it was fun. Inspires? The next gig. If there isn't a gig on the horizon, I'm a guitarist.

When did you get into bass playing and why?

Five years ago, at age 44. I had been playing guitar since I was 11 and teaching guitar for about 7 years at that point. A friend asked if I would consider playing bass to accompany a couple of tunes in a musical at my kids' school. I said that if I could borrow a bass, I would give it a try...

    Ever hire a "band coach/consultant"?

I know two people who have hired musical coaches. Both have found the experience to be positive. Not much different from hiring a music teacher, except I imagine it costs more and they come to you rather than the other way around.

    432 tuning

This. For some people "different" equals "better" - not me. I have friends in the 432 camp and they are brilliant musicians. I would happily tune down to play with them.
