“Seven Nation Army” on headphones at the moment, seems to be flats / pick / short scale?

I like the OP's idea (short scale with flats in my avatar, I usually gigged without a pick but have recorded either way). This Tommy James/Shondells song's intro epitomizes that sound for me (but I suspect the guitar's flatwounds are what I am hearing).

At the bottom it says "Should adjustment be necessary, take the strings out of the nut". That seems like an operation to be done with loosened strings, with the Rics I've had.

I'm not seeing anything in the photos from the manual that says keep the strings under tension when adjusting the bridge or truss rod. Sorry, a little late to the party here.

I have the Frank Bello "signature" version of that one, I am pretty happy with it (first 8 string), it does seem to need seasonal truss rod/bridge tweaks between midwest summer and winter.

I must be taking the wrong flights, every overhead bin I see is jammed with oversized wheeled luggage because no one wants to pay for a checked bag. For the OP, one idea is to unbolt the neck and put the pieces in your bag (along with a set of strings).

I just bought a used black fretless "J" bass with a s/n one lower than the black one mentioned above. The action isn't bad, fb seems flat. My first foray into 5 string, for under $200 I've done worse. I'll probably put lines on it with a paint rollerball pen for now.
