    Boss RC20-XL Looping Station Drawbacks?

Hello everyone, For some time now, I've wanted to buy something to loop my bass and have fun by myself and practice, etc. The Boss RC20-XL comes highly recommended to me, and many reviews online have nothing but praise for this tool. If anyone has used this and has noticed any serious...

    Buying Strings: The Impossible Choice

Hello folks, It's not as bad as the title would make it seem, but it sounded more compelling/gripping to put it that way than "Buying Strings: I Am Clueless". Beyond the basic tonal aspect implied, I don't really know what all these string terms mean (roundwound, flatwound, etc). I don't...

    Educated Opinion Needed!

Thanks so much! Yes, my bass is already active, so that eliminates the need for further tweaking in that area (at least until I dig up that fabled buried treasure in my backyard and become a millionaire overnight).

    Educated Opinion Needed!

Hello folks, I own a 5 string Fender Squier Jazz Bass, nothing special in the sound dept. (though it feels great!), and want to upgrade my pickups cause honestly, whatever they put on the bass in assembly is horrendous and I can't get a good tone out of them worth mentioning. (Also, the...

    Kuru/Speak Like A Child - Jaco Pastorius

In the future, if you use Transcribe!, you can slow down the audio file without bending the pitch. It makes transcription WAY easier. You can probably find the legit program on Google...and I think a legal download is only like $50 or something close to that.

    Custom Basses

What are the pros/cons of custom-made basses? Obviously a pro would be the ability to choose what your instrument is made of, its scale, etc. abilities to specify. Contrast this with pre-made, store-sold basses. Before I go off and spend time and money trying to construct my dream custom bass...

Does having a better, high-end bass improve your playing?

Thanks for all the replies, folks! Four comments/clarifications: I personally prefer (and am working on) jazz, progressive, avant-garde styles (probably stemming from my classical background), but I'm still very much in love with blues, rock, even some metal. I'm kind of a musical...

Does having a better, high-end bass improve your playing?

Combining some comments from several of you folks: Haha, definitely just making music is encouraging enough, though I agree that playing with others is so much more of a blast. Still, it's great to be able to have fun when solo in the practice room, even when you're doing the mundane (i.e...

Does having a better, high-end bass improve your playing?

It could have tons to do with it. In my most recent reply post, I mentioned my unfamiliarity and lack of knowledge/expertise in electronic sound production (EQing and the like). It's true that when I go home (where my father owns a larger, slightly better amp), the bass sounds fuller...eh...

Does having a better, high-end bass improve your playing?

Yeah, man, the cello I have right now is tolerable, but nothing special, and I've spent many hours working on sound production to make it match up to those better-crafted instruments owned by my peers. I've often been told that (given that apparently I make a good tone out of my mediocre cello)...

String Crossings (alternate right hand fingerings)

Dude, don't worry about it. Classical training only lets me see things a little bit more clearly from an analytical, sophisticated POV. It doesn't make me any better than you or anyone else. I came here for help from folks like you, who as musicians are my equals if not my betters...I hope to...

Does having a better, high-end bass improve your playing?

I've played music for quite some time before seriously committing myself to the bass guitar, so I think my musicality and musicianship is at a pretty high level. It's only my technique that I need to improve on to express this (mostly innate, partially cultivated) musicality in a vivid and...

Does having a better, high-end bass improve your playing?

Thanks folks! I appreciate the input a lot! I guess then all I would be wondering is how to setup a low-quality bass so as to get as ideal a sound as possible. And my initial guess is that the answer would be too complicated for you all to answer via the internet...am I right?

Does having a better, high-end bass improve your playing?

To explain what may initially sound like an inane question: I have an entry-level 5-string Fender Squier Jazz Bass. The feel of the instrument (in terms of left-hand comfort and ease of motion) is tolerable, and the the string spacing is alright. However, the pickups are terrible. I also...

String Crossings (alternate right hand fingerings)

Thanks for your advice. I actually own the book you mentioned, and have been working through it slowly. The same issues repeat themselves there, and I've practiced with alternation and there hasn't been too remarkable of a change yet. But I've only been doing it for a little while, so I suppose...
