What are your thoughts on Scott Grove and his videos?

He's got this weird idiot-savant vibe about him that I find condescending and off-putting...kind of like the Simpsons' Comic Book Guy, in a way. Very haughty and superior. But he's a heck of a player, and I've definitely learned from his vids. I just find myself fast forwarding a lot, that's...

    Lars Ulrich... How dare he!

Newsted is a classy dude. Seeing how cool he's been about his treatment in Metallica, it just highlights all the more how utterly bloated Lars and James grew to be, ego-wise. I'm sure there was a lot going on emotionally following Cliff's death, but still...they really gave Jason a raw deal.

    FAIL!! Schaller Strap Locks

Sorry to hear this. I'm a firm believer that strap locks simply add a complex potential failure point to what should be a simple system (sliding the strap on the button). I'm a firm proponent of the rubber washer method, myself.

Squier Bass VI vs Eastwood Bass VI

I'm officially GASsing for an Eastwood Sidejack VI. That video is drool worthy in the extreme.

If You Could Meet One Bass Player Who Would It Be? (Alive or Chillin' Upstairs)

Cliff Burton. But assuming the laws of the universe don't allow for me to commune with the departed, and I have to pick a living player, I'd absolutely choose Brian Ritchie.

    Pinback?

I love Pinback. An ex-gf burned me a disc of her faves a few years ago, and it's gotten pretty constant play ever since.

    Worst Relic Job

I just googled "how to relic a guitar." Looks like there were lots of tutorials that could've pointed this lad in the right direction...He probably should've practiced on scrap :P

Peaches "Search and Destroy" Tab Help?

I'm VERY new at trying to figure out bass lines, and I know this should be easy, but I'm stymied. Kinda embarrassing, but can anyone help me with the main groove/first few measures? It seems different than the Stooges version, which of course is easy to find.

Would you still be a bassist if you didn't have a band?

I have no strong desire to be in a band, and it often causes me to think "I should just sell this bass...there's no point in playing it alone, and I'm mainly a guitarist." Then I plug it in and play...and I can't dream of selling it. Screw it, even if I'm just rumbling through my scales, I...

    $100 some kind of bass.

Whelp, I feel lazy now! Awesome thread.

Talk me into/out of a MIA deluxe Dimension HH

I'm really torn between this and a Stingray when it's time to upgrade. Are these Dimensions not selling well? You don't see much buzz about them. I listened to some youtube clips and loved the versatility.

Why would you go 4 string over 5?

I didn't have GAS, but my neighbor got a 5 string last night and let me play it. I loved the wide, flat neck. It felt SO right. I can barely play the 4 string I already own, but I have a sinking feeling I'll own a 5 soon...sigh. I'm too poor for this.

Anyone on TB who owns just one bass???

Too bad there's not a bass equivalent to the VG Strat with a modelling pickup for different tones and tunings. You'd think it would have at least a niche market appeal.

Anyone on TB who owns just one bass???

If I was a pro, I'd need more than one, as someone indicated. Accidents happen. Wouldn't want to be high and dry at a gig. But as a guy goofing off in his living room playing the solo to Orion with the TV on? It's no crisis if my one bass breaks lol. And I'm far too poor to have GAS.
