Lars Ulrich... How dare he!

Try this.

Just sounds wrong.

I'd love to hear an official remix, but these hamfisted attempts to "fix" the album are just dumb.

I've always thought Justice had the best guitar and drum tones of all their output, and in a lot of ways is my favorite Metallica album.

I still love Metallica's early stuff and the dudes in the band seem like OK guys, but they totally destroyed any creative credibility they had. Jeez, why do I still care about this? :bag:

I agree completely with every statement here, especially the last one.

I'm all for exploring new musical directions, but come on! Changing that much in less than a decade?

Seriously? For people who actively write new music a decade is an eternity!

The Beatles were only around for a decade, and by the end they sounded like a whole different band, only the vocals marked them.

Rush changes their sound every 2 or 3 albums; 8 years after they hit the scene people were already complaining about the "new Rush with all the synths".

Metallica gave us a few good albums before douching out. I don't have a problem with them exploring new ground. But they do seem like the kind of people I might not get along with.

I get what your saying. But notice, Rush and the Beatles were still making interesting and exciting music. Metallica ended up giving us some twisted pop/metal hybrid. Again, nothing against them personally, I just can't take them seriously anymore.

I actually like all Metallica albums from Ride The Lightning to S&M, but I think that Lars destroyed ...And Justice For All, which could have eclipsed Master Of Puppets, when he took out all the bass and chopped his own kick drum down.

As an aside, I think Jason Newsted has got to be one of the classiest guys in music today. I've never seen an interview or heard about him talking negatively about other musicians, Metallica or others. Always positive and honest, gotta love the guy.

That's funny, listening to it just now, it's the first time I've ever gotten into that album. I'm sure it could be done way better officially, but I know for sure now that's it's the lack of audible bass that's kept me away all these years, though I still listen to the first three records from time to time. I too bought it when it first came out, listened to it for a couple of months, and ultimately went back to the first three albums, and never connected to another new Metallica album thereafter.
I'd love an official re-mixed release too. I would buy it for sure.

Newsted sort of blames his own playing for having it docked from the album:

"Being a bass player in FLOTSAM, I did not know about playing to the bass part yet, I just knew about playing bass really fast like guitar, basically everybody playing the same thing like a sonic wall. So it ended up with everything being in the same frequency, my bass and James' guitar battling for the same frequency."

I hate to go away from the AJFA topic but seriously...

You know what's funny why would anyone listen to Lars. He thought turning his snare off was a good idea...And they let him....And that brought us St. Anger folks....Just think your recording your drummer says "I am just going to keep the snare off for this whole album. I am going for the empty dented trashcan sound even though I have pristine drums."
You would have slapped your drummer right?

Nope they all said "Ok Lars for some reason we listen to you". Not one person said actually Lars that sounds stupid and you look like a pompous elf. Better yet twenty something years ago why didn't Metallica say let's get a good drummer.

Unchecked aggression.
