Being embarrassed by basses you love?

I really don't give a hoot what anybody thinks about the look or pedigree of my gear. I let my abilities as a musician and the quality of sound do all the talking. I've played with players that have amazingly expensive/beautiful gear but they can barely play a waling bass line. Take a look at...

What all have you done to afford a bass you wanted?

Many years ago my first dream bass was a '69 Fender Jazz (yep...still have it) that a guy was selling for $250 so I basically took food out of my children's mouths and put it in his children's mouths to buy it. Was that bad?

Removing MarkBass logo plate from grill?

I removed mind by carefully prying it off. Don't remember any screws but just some real sticky adhesive but I got is off without damage. I'm a proud MarkBass owner but I just like a clean look on stage. Beside, every bass player knows what a MarkBass amp looks like.

    Expensive vs inexpensive basses

A bass does not have to be expensive or complicated to sound great. I believe you could go your entire career and never pay more than $400 for a bass. I have some fancy basses but prefer to gig mostly with my cheap Ibanez. Been gigging with it for years and thinking of buying another one in...

You walk into a recording studio, 3 basses are hanging on the wall...

A 4-string Jazz, a 4-string Precision, and a 5-string something. I don't play 5-string basses and really don't want to, but it needs to be in the studio arsenal. Anything else and they can bring their own.
