5 years is a extended amount of time. If you like a bit less bright or flat sound maybe you change it every 2 months depending on how often you play that bass. I have many bass guitar and gig once a week & practice 4-5 days a week. I change my strings or clean them when I no longer like the...

Drums which I already play. Bass and drums is like a married couple. But if I had to pick another it would be the trumpet.

I haven't found a P bass yet that can stand toe to toe with a Jazz bass. I do like P bass but not like a jazz bass. But of course I haven't played every bass there is. The P bass reminds me of a standard yet good sounding bass. The preamp is better on the jazz bass. My opinion only. Time will tell.

Fender 4 string are expensive. I need a 5 string and a great preamp collection with active / passive choice at the Sire price range and sound quality. Can Fender do that? Not at this moment.
