How to Modify the Marshall ED-1 Compressor for bass

Very late to the party here - I'm working on a Community Musical and had a need for a compressor on the cheap. This one had been kicking around in my guitar bag barely used, so I took the dive to mod it for bass. The process is "simple" in the sense that there is some basic soldering knowledge...

    Who enjoys cooking?

I enjoy cooking. It's something I've only discovered in the last 5-7 years, and was triggered by cooking for my partner who has a bunch of severe allergies, necessitating a drastic rethink of most recipes. That was how I learnt about categories and functions of different ingredients, and (imo)...

New to bass. Need some advice

There's significant tonal difference playing (for example) the string area above the bridge pickup with the bridge pickup selected, vs playing the area over the neck pickup, with the bridge pickup selected. There's also significant difference in how the strings respond and move in those two...

    Minimal electronic setup? Only Volume?

Forgot to mention (but was clarified above), tone would be all the way bright in this configuration. If you are doing tone control on an outboard device, it's easy to cut brightness there. Cutting it at the bass only to boost it later in the signal chain seems... redundant/ineffective to me.

    Minimal electronic setup? Only Volume?

http://www.seymourduncan.com/blog/the-tone-garage/guitar-wiring-102/ For simplicity, I'd leave the volume out and just use a master kill switch. You might find you need to fill some holes though, so...

Lol, well I'm not sure what to say to that - good luck with your dream? :p

    The Fretless Club (Part IV)

I've got two, so I guess a membership is due ;) After years of not finding a bass which I liked better than my first (a fretted Ibanez RD300), I finally tried a fretless Maton JB4 and fell in love. I bought this back in August of 2014, and am still honeymooning (apols for the phone shot): My...

A bass you always wanted, until you played one...

I went to the basscentre in Melbourne recently with the intent of picking up an Ibanez SRF700 (portamento) 5 string. I had built up so much research over the course of about a year, it was a long trip for me (6+ hours), it had all the things I wanted, and I played it for about an hour and a half...

    which fretless is the best

The SRF700 in that list is the Portamento @OP I recently went looking for the same thing you are. Out of those basses, I played the Gary Willis and the SRF700. I rate the GW above the SRF700 (my preference), however the bass I went home with was a Maton JB4 fretless. 4 String, passive...

How do I wire up a 1988 Aria Pro II with active pickups?

For reference, here's the obf thread: Invalid Link Removed We're gradually building the diagram up (ie as a learning exercise), you might find some info on the 3rd page specific to your battery issues.

How do I wire up a 1988 Aria Pro II with active pickups?

Hey, dual thread action ;) The SD diagram is for active pickups, there's no preamp in the diagram. You're hooking your passive pickups to a preamp. The Preamp needs power, not the pickups. As mentioned previously, start simple - work out how the preamp is wired first, get it working with the...

    Weird Question- Interesting Thought

After watching the odd Poirot/Miss Marple episode I've definitely thought about HOW I'd do it. I've never actually had any urge to act on whatever plan I dreamt up though. I'm not sure where that sits in the poll tbh

Double Bass Best and worst advice you've received from a teacher?

Did this comment help spur you on to a 30 year career? If so, you're right. That falls neatly in both categories

finally getting a real amp... too many questions!

I'm an athletic/fit 30-something male and I'm grimacing at the weight of the equipment you're looking at. If I had my time again, me and a Markbass cmd121p would be living together :) There is such a thing as turning the volume down. Tinnitus isn't a scar you can show off
