You could go with an overwound jazz pickup or a humbucker type jazz. Doesn't have to be nordstrand.

It's a conundrum all right. I don't want you to make a decision you'll regret. But in my opinion; it's never a bad idea to have a 4 string in your arsenal. If you really don't want a 4 string then you should look at other brands. Fender are making a 5 string P now. So do some other brands.
