    Simple and warm...for church

I play in church quite a bit. I don’t know that I will ever enjoy IEMs, but I’ve learned to mostly tolerate them. At my home church, we have a Genzler 350 and an Acme B1 on stage (super tiny) so there always in some on stage bass sound available, and that has been handy several times. Yes there...

What Gear Did You Play In The 90’s?

By the 90's, I had graduated away from my BGW750B and was using Carver power amps. I didn't like the sound quite as well, but I was saving 45lb and 2 rack spaces. I still mostly used a SWR Grand Prix Preamp, although I dabbled with an Alembic preamp for a while. My Speaker had shrunk from EV...

    Dingwall Owners Club

I'm just getting back into Bass Talk. I've been a member, but only stalking for a while. I have a Lee Sklar signature, 3 p/u 5 string, among others in my collection.

Wow- maybe you're right. I suck. Obviously. You sound a little bit defensive. Like a sound man in denial maybe. But, peace please! I'm not really wanting to get into a pissing contest. I was hoping to enjoy this site. BTW- over the years, I found 1 of the best ways for me to uncover the...

    Simple and warm...for church

Yeah, I doubt anyone will listen... but it doesn't HAVE to be all in-ear, drums in a cage, etc. This is our stage: 9' Steinway model D, NORD imitating Hammond B3, live acoustic/electric guitars and electric guitars, tube amp backline for guitars, Hybrid Tube solid state (Eden Traveler) head for...

Thanks, and maybe I have become a little cynical. But answer me this: when listening to someone else (music/musicians you know well) how many times have you heard miscues, solos that weren't there, poor mixes, etc? It is the human condition: we all make mistakes. When you rely on someone else to...

    Polarity (phase) watch...

But does the average bass player ever know and/or check themselves? That's what I'm concerned about. A guy hooks up a second cabinet and his sound gets "thin" but they do they test polarity on the cab or dismiss it as a bad sounding cab? And latency issues are becoming chronic as sound systems...

    Polarity (phase) watch...

As a bassist and (sometime) soundman, I've experienced a LOT of polarity problems/phase issues. Most recently 2 have cropped up: 1.) (2)DNS 112-N cabinets delivered with reverse-polarity woofers installed- but NOT compensated for. 2.) Digital latency delaying sound enough to throw the on stage...

I feel sorry for you! I really have no tolerance for the "all DI" thing. I enjoy the sound of a real amp too much to give it up. And in 40+ years of professional bass playing, I have only worked with a handful of sound people who had knowledge, skill, passion, taste- and could still hear! So I...
