I agree with you for the most part, but, hauling in gear can also make you resent it and wish you had a magic box to replace most of it :) That being said, I've been messing around with the idea of bi-amping before I came across dUg's rig. I think it would be cool because you get the full range...

Thanks, I got the idea from a friend who played the trombone. I was listening to him play and thought of the "fretless trumpet" thing. I know some people will say it's a terrible idea to remove the frets, but for my own purposes I couldn't be happier, and plus it will keep your ears in shape...

After converting a badly worn fretted bass to fretless... A fretless bass will work your ears, but, if you can get it down, it's a rewarding musical experience. Think of a trumpet vs a trombone. I see the trombone as a "fretless" trumpet. Also, I've heard in multiple interviews Jaco stating...

Just saying, I love me some fretless metal action. When it works, nothing sounds better... It adds such a beautiful contrast in sounds. But I can only speak for myself ;)

You're right about the list of players; it takes the right person to get others to really latch onto an idea. And not everyone wants an expansive tonal palette (they have their sound and stick to it), and not everyone can drive "clutch," some people need "automatic" to even get on to the road...

To an extent... If I hear a sound I like, I'm curious as to know the tools (instrument, pedals, rig) used to reproduce it. My dream bass would be a Lightwave 12 string (4 strings tripled up), but that doesn't exist yet. So from a gearhead/musical perspective, yes I'm interested, but not...

Aslin Dane I have their Alembic copy, and the only reason why I acquired a second bass is because it was practically given to me. Its been my sole gigging bass for about six years or so.

I wasn't too fond of the SWR head that was back-lined at a recent gig, it wasn't the worst thing I've played on... but I would need to be given one to get one in my collection.

This. I don't have the patience or concentration to stick with ONE position. I guess it really depends on the song/style.
