You’re so right. I switched compressors to one modeled on the 1176, set it’s attack and release to their fastest settings, and was able to get a much better tone.

I can tame the transients on the harder pulls, but in so doing I set up a 20:1 compression ratio. As a result the transients don't distort the signal, but the note has also lost some of us endearing bloom envelope. Such extreme compression sounds more digitized. This post is less about the baby...

I switched the bass signal path to using one of Midas's compressors as an insert. It made a difference, even though you're right that it's probably after the a/d converter.

Is the information on How Multiple Speakers Share Power - Geoff the Grey Geek accurate? The 12 ohm would only be true if the cabinets were run in series instead of parallel, which others here seem to believe is improbable if not impossible.
