Yeah Im aware of the epoxy encased "modules", so Im really hoping the problem isnt with one of those.

I'd take a look at http://www.billfitzmaurice.com. He sells plans for some pretty awesome cabs which should give you some really big sound for not so much money. http://www.speakerhardware.com sells parts kits to go along with the cab builds. Just add wood :)
