Source for empty bass cabinets

Unless your looking for a new one, I'd suggest placing a (free) craigslist ad titled Seeking 15" bass cab with or without speaker". Your ad would probably trigger someone with one sittin around with a blown speaker to sell cheaply.

Unless you are planning on buying a speaker based on what box you end up with you are probably not going to get great results this way. Just build something, power tools are good fun.
There is a guy on eBay who sells empty geetard cabs under the name lopoline, but I don't know if he sells bass cabs or not. He currently has 1x15" guitar cabs for sale...

I originally specified an unloaded cabinet from LDS when I placed an order with them. I was impressed with the quoted price. I changed my order to let Don put in the drivers he thought would work best just to see what he could do. I'm much happier now that I replaced the drivers and crossover myself, but I wouldn't mind ordering an empty cabinet from him in the future.
Hey, I just noticed the Lopo cab's dimensions seem small at 18" high x 14" deep x 18" long. Tiny when compared to an Ampeg SVT15-E (W 24x H 22x D 16 inches), and probably weighs a lot less loaded.
What particular driver, based on it's small size and being ported, would you guys recommend for the Lopo?

Lopo sells larger carpeted cabs too... 22" wide x 23" high x 20" deep. I had the smaller vinyl one with a Basslite 15 in it, which I sold. It was good with thick tone. I added a bunch of fill and tried to tune the ports myself. In fact I'm thinking of giving that a try again. I would get the larger cab if you want some real spl though....

I'd take a look at http://www.billfitzmaurice.com. He sells plans for some pretty awesome cabs which should give you some really big sound for not so much money. http://www.speakerhardware.com sells parts kits to go along with the cab builds. Just add wood
