    Synth & Crunch

Thanks for the reply. My understanding of a limiter was that it would cut the highs and lows and basically ‘crunch’ the sound. So, it would take the ‘frayed edges’ off of the fuzz and I figured that’s what I wanted - like a tight, controlled crunchy fuzz. Not sure.

    Synth & Crunch

Hey all, I’m a hip hop, grunge, new wave, and 80s pop fan. I also like some jazz, like the Coleman Hawkins & Lester Young style and time frame. And I like a lot of other stuff but I’m looking for some particular sounds on bass. I like the sound of a synth / crunch much like you hear in Muse...

    Recording Bass iPhone

Hey all, I have an Ibanez BTB bass, a MarkBass 151 Jeff Berlin Combo, a few pedals and an iPhone. I’d like to sit with my bass, some headphones, maybe some pedals hooked in and record onto my iPhone and mess around with it in Garage Band for iPhone (I also have.) Any tips on how to set this...

Gregmon79... very well thanks. The VT rocks. The Pickle Pie is over the top but a lot of fun. I have held off from new purchases for now but I would still like to go with a full board. However, the soul band I play with now has no need for effects. I am also playing with a 90's cover band that...

Thanks for all the input. I picked up the VT Deluxe and it is amazing! I also got a Pickle Pie B but it just got delivered 5 min ago. About to try it. But after playing with the VT, I am not sure how much other fuzz I need. Now I really want a wah and a compressor or limiter... I've opened...

    MarkBass CMD 151P Jeff Berlin

Hey all, I have the CMD151 Berlin and love it - but does anyone know how I might hook in my iPod to play along with tunes I am learning for a cover band?

TN, are you joking!? That is really crazy. I have been haunting TalkBass for a few days since I ran into $400 I could spend on music equipment and the number 1 item I've narrowed down is the Tech 21 VT Deluxe... glad you said it. Just nailed that coffin shut! Also on the short list, the...

I love the tips and really appreciate the ideas. Swollen Pickle, Compressor and the EQ sound like good, versatile options. This multi vs stomp issue is endless on these threads - we'll see. I'll report back after I hit the shop. Thanks again and please keep any ideas coming!

When I go to Sam Ash or Guitar Center, they all try and sell me the multi-effects... they sound alright but they seem a bit complicated - well, not crazy but... thoughts on multi-effects?

    $400

Just got $400... have a MarkBass 151 CMD Berlin, an Ibanez BTB200, a Snark tuner and a monster cable... it's all I've needed! :) I play with a 60s R&B / Soul cover band, a 90's cover band and a classic rock teacher band where kids sing songs about the American Revolution over classic rock...

    Markbass CMD 151P Jeff Berlin

I know this thread is old as hell... I've had one for over a year and I've played shows and I regularly get comments on the tone from amateurs to pros to people who don't even play music. The Berlin has not let me down... You can get a fat (somewhat muddy if you ask me) tone all the way to a...

    Need amp buying tips please

I think it is because it is an all tube head. The GK 2x10 was a combo and it was quiet as all hell.

    Need amp buying tips please

Tried some Hartke heads, a GK 2x10 combo, 2 MarkBass combos, an Ampeg head through a MarkBass 15. Of course the 15's sounded 'bigger' than the 12's but I was blown away by the sound quality of the Mesa Walkabout. If I had money, I would have bought it right there. Sounded awesome!! $1449...
