    Tinnitus- Hearing Loss.

I've had this problem my entire life, but one thing that definitely made it worse was attending 2 consecutive Roger Waters shows back in 2010 in a VERY LOUD venue. Those were the loudest two concerts I've *ever* been to. Since then, my tinnitus has been noticeably worse. My own fault, I...

    Walking bass line question

For walking bass, another thing to consider trying is to always land on the root note as the first note of every change - pretty typical technique and it helps solidify the change. Where you walk from there is up to you :)

    3 Spot

Wall warts that needlessly eat up space on power strips should be banned, abolished, burned, stomped on, run over by a truck (or better yet, several trucks), then mailed back to the manufacturer. I will never understand why (especially with music gear) those things are designed that way...

    Secrets of Muting

Muting is one thing that seemed to come naturally to me. I can't say there's any secrets to it, but for me, it's a combination of right and left hand. I do have a rough time with palm muting (unless I'm playing with a pick) though. I notice that my left hand fingers will "bounce" off the...

    Tinnitus- Hearing Loss.

At home, I keep the amp down as low as possible (the first or second detent in the volume knob is plenty adequate on my 900W amp) or use headphones. Have to be careful with headphones though - it's real easy to crank those beyond a safe level and not even know it. It may not sound too loud...

How many of you do this when playing bass?

I taught myself to move my hands/arms around a bit when I can, mainly just to keep from being stuck in a fixed position for too long. Helps keep the blood flowing and prevent muscle cramps. I don't think it's counterproductive as long as you don't overdo it and end up making yourself tired...

    Why learn music?

I've wondered myself how this works. I've been a musician since I was a kid - learned to read and learned theory, harmony, and composition in my early teens and throughout high school. Since then, I've encountered so many musicians who simply don't have a clue - they just play by ear. But a...

Playing A Gig In Front Of Coworkers

Well, that might make matters worse (at least it does for me). Alcohol + timing/concentration/focus just doesn't mix. Anyway, as others have said... it's just like any other, except maybe a little more friendly since you know a lot of folks in the audience. You'll do fine!

Bad habits you had to unlearn

Currently working on left-hand position as I'm starting to get pain there again. I must've gotten lazy. It seems I'm developing the habit of not playing from the tips of the fingers - they lay almost flat, and this is causing me to kink up my wrist a bit, especially when working around the...
