    Got my punchy bass sound

I read it on the interwebs! And of course, all I was getting was cement floor and area rug, which is how I would describe the tone. Wet cement.

    Got my punchy bass sound

No, I keep it simple. (DI is probably the simple solution, of course.) I just record for fun, and the bass track isn't the focus. The guitar tracks are. I know, heresy. But the bass track is often the most fun.

    Got my punchy bass sound

That never occurred to me. I have Rotosound Swing Bass 66 Standards on there now, which get me more Geddy and less Jamerson, so it never dawned on me that these bright, obnoxious strings could be a source of the problem. Food for thought.

Kip Winger: Isolated bass track to "Seventeen" (1989)

I think Kip would have played it on a real bass. He’s kind of a hard core musician; not a guy to not keep it real. But I don’t know. This song grooves, although I’m not generally a big Winger fan. Great guitar riff doubling the bass as well. Kip’s a whole lot more than just some guy from a...

    Got my punchy bass sound

I record bass from time to time when I do covers of songs. I’ve never been satisfied with my bass tone—it’s boomy. You either dial it out altogether or have a big fat messy low end. I watched a video where someone said that in their experience, boom was usually associated with 100 Hz. So I...

    Makeshift Amp Covers

lol…7.5 years later, and I still have and use this amp cover! Keeps the dust off and protects the amp from random feet, guitar headstocks, etc. in the man cave.

Ibanez Bass Tube Screamer TS9B: should I, should I not?

Does the bass tube screamer have a low pass filter? I’ve been using it with my guitar and am wondering if I’m losing my highs. I can get them back with the tone knobs along the way in the chain, but I don’t know if they’re there, or if it’s just my ears. So basically I’m wondering if the TS9B...

Online Bass Lessons - Scott's Bass Lessons?

I used StudyBass early on. Very simple, very direct. Good for teaching you how to get started and probably well beyond that by now. I enjoy the human interaction (albeit one-way via video) of sites like SBL.

Online Bass Lessons - Scott's Bass Lessons?

I don’t think I ever get an email from SBL. I must have turned them off at some point. It’s like any other business—Scott has a staff and overhead, and would like to retire some day. If the emails didn’t generate business, companies wouldn’t send them.

Online Bass Lessons - Scott's Bass Lessons?

Howdy, y’all. I bought a lifetime membership at Scott’s Bass Lessons at some point in the past when it was really cheap—I’m thinking like $300, because the wife would never let me pay more. Anyway, Scott’s site has grown and matured tremendously. The learning pathways are much more clear...

    Too passive aggressive?

    AC/DC has a song with a bagpipe solo…

    Too passive aggressive?

This is when you finally demand that bagpipe solo you were promised.

That fourth grader who plays “Hysteria” by Muse

I’ve been fooling with this bass line for a few days after seeing the video below of this damn kid rocking it like it’s Row Your Boat. I can play the first half of the intro at about 2/3 speed so far. I’ll probably add the rest of the intro at that tempo and work up to maybe 3/4 speed, but I...

Bass tone, Is it the neck or the body?

Man, I don't log in here for a few months, and nothing's changed. God, that's comforting.

What !!! a left handed combo amp?..

Paul Reed Smith doesn't like to make left-handed guitars because, in his words, "They don't make left-handed pianos." And he has a point. You can fret just as well with either hand if you learn that way. Baseball players field grounders with their non-dominant hand simply because they need the...
