Double Bass Yamaha SLB300 New model

I joined the SLB300 club this week! :hyper: My main goal is to get more upright practice time without disturbing my family or neighbors. The SLB300 feels very close to my acoustic upright, which I’m really happy about. I’m hoping that the practice time on this will translate well to the real...

Need guidance re: IEM's with individual mixes

Agreed. Ultimately, you simply need the right cable depending on what type of input the HP-amp has.

Need guidance re: IEM's with individual mixes

According to this awesome instructional video, you can actually get two mono mixes from the headphone out :) That would make it a total of 7 different mixes on the XR16: aux 1-4; headphone L&R; main out Without workarounds you get 5 mixes: aux 1-4, plus a stereo mix through headphone out...

Need guidance re: IEM's with individual mixes

It sounds correct. Should the headphone amps only have a 1/4'' input, you will need a cable from XLR (female) to 1/4''. You can plug one pair of headphones directly into the headphone out on the XR16 - this way you will only need two additional headphone amps and cables.

Need guidance re: IEM's with individual mixes

If it's just for rehearsals, why not use aux1, and 2 and the main out? There is a control room / phones out on the mixer as well. This way, you can have 3 individual mixes (two in mono and one in stereo), or 2 individual stereo mixes (main out, and aux1&2 combined). The preferred/long-term...

Easy temporary fix for boomy practice room?

In boomy rooms, you have to maximize the amount of direct sound that gets into your ears vs the room reflections. If acoustic treatment is not an option, you need to adapt your playing to the room. Point the amps at your ears (tilt / elevate them) Set up as close to each other as possible, so...

    Double Bass IEM Question

You are not doing anything super-extraordinary - Zoom B3 should work with headphones just fine without any additional equipment. When you connect your headphones to the Zoom (via L/Phones out), Are you using a headphone 1/4'' to 1/8'' stereo adapter? Are you connecting anything (e.g. an amp)...

    Double Bass IEM Question

Maybe your headphones are not the right ones for the job. IEM headphones for bass have bass-specific drivers, and seal the ears so the bass frequencies do not leak. What kind are you using? If you plug the bass into the Zoom input, and connect your headphones directly to the Phones Out, does it...

Should I buy an amp or just stick to the PA's?

In this situation I'd get a bass amp. If you want the PA to handle the bass, you will need at least one sub, and monitor(s). It becomes large and complex quickly. I'd get a 200-300W combo amp. Sure, 500W is great to have, but if I needed to prioritize transportability, I'd get something like a...

Double Bass Upright bass learning curve

Thanks everyone for your comments so far! There is a lot of input for me to consider, but if I had to summarize my main takeaways, those would be Upright is simply more physically demanding than BG, even with correct technique. It also sounds very different than electric bass. So there's no...

Double Bass Upright bass learning curve

Hi fellow upright bass players! I would like to ask you about your experiences with the upright bass "learning curve", specifically those of you who switched to upright later in your musical journey, after already being proficient on another instrument. A bit of context: I started seriously...

Double Bass Anyone else ruined for bass guitar?

What a great thread! I have played BG as my first "serious" instrument for about 10 years. This summer, I decided to rent a DB and see where it takes me. Initially, I split my practice time between DB and BG (I was worried about losing my BG "chops"), but since there are no gigs anyway, I put...

Double Bass Teachers: beginners, intermediate, and advanced?

This is amazing insight put together in a super-clear and inspiring way. After reading this, there's no question as to where I currently am in terms of playing ability and what I need to do to get into the next category. And I definitely played some gigs I wasn't quilified for because I "have a...

    How do you do it?!??

Something that really helped me was watching my bass teacher transcribe songs. Early in my development I joined a band, and needed to learn a bunch of songs quickly. So I asked my teacher to help me learn those songs. Watching the transcription process was very insightful for me. It didn't...
