You can be good as a bass player but it doesn't mean you are good in other music related themes. It's normal, 90% of musicians what I've met think that soldering some passive circuit is a kind of black magic. But you are quite good in the rudeness obviously.

I have serious doubts about quality of balanced output of this box. I suppose there is no real balance actually, just because of size and price of the unit. A good transformer costs money, weight and place for it. But I've never had one for a test.

Try ORTF for the room pair, 12' at least. Without any pair of mics (even unmatched) you get only mono record and it sounds strange with mono cymbals and panoramic drums. Or you can try Glyn Johns technic.
