REDDI - Really Worth It?

Not sure where you are getting saturation of the signal with the REDDI. I've played a ton of gigs with mine since I bought one, and its uber clean. Does it have its own color? Sure, but thats why those of us who use them like them. The JDI is a clean passive DI. I don't even know how you can compare it(or why you would want to). They are good live for active basses, fine for keys etc, but in the studio it can be bland sounding if you are playing a passive bass into one IMO.

Just because something has a flat line on a scope does not mean it is going to be perceived 100% true. There are many other factors involved . Its the SUM of the parts that makes it work or not.

Or are you yet another armchair TB quarterback that needs to sit back behind a keyboard and tell everyone how to do it , without any real world gigging or recording experience ,,

Because line outputs of amps suck usually. A good balanced output costs 100$ at least (price of components). They don't want spend this money usually, only high end/boutique manufacturers don't try to make his devices as cheap as possible.

The Cinemag CM-DBX transformer costs around 80$. The Jensen JT-DB transformer costs around 75$. Plus another handful of cheaper components and expenses of production such rent, salary, etc. It's more than 100$ but a mass production reduces costs.

I'm not. I'm trashing equipment vendors. Lots of them don't do they job properly and lie too much. Consumers are just victims usually.

I like the D.I. coming out of my GB shuttle. Thinking about the REDDI primarily for live use. Can you hear the $800.00difference? Will this solve the problem of live sound engineers screwing up my tone?

No DI can fix an incompetent FOH engineer unfortunately...

That being said, the REDDI is an incredible piece of gear...I've used it to record on everything from project studio demo sessions to album sessions in world famous studios (NRG, Capitol, EastWest, etc.) with multi-platinum producers/engineers (Thom Russo, Skip Saylor, Wyn Davis, etc.)...I've yet to play through a DI that either myself or any of those gents preferred more.

Highly recommended.

My REDDI is the chosen house DI for the Dallas Guitar Festival this week..They should just buy a few.. !
We/I will be doing stuff out of my normal realm with Derek St Holmes from Nugents band on Friday.. then Sat and Sun with metal guitar player George Lynch form the Dokken days and lynch mob...with my old band Point Blank in between those 2
Ill most likely use a slight OD in front of the REDDI for George's stuff. its a put your seat-belt on type of gig..
Derick iseasy as pie to work with...and clean P bass with EMGs or my jazz bass.. No 5 string this week

Was a diehard cab mic'er and did not like DI's till I heard the REDDI. Gives me everything I love about micing without bleed, and without having to get into arguments with moron soundguys who can't operate a bass cab mic. I take it with me to every single gig now, even if I fly.

Last night I had a gig 3 hours away and decided to go small and took a small combo and the REDDI. After last night, the REDDI will go with me every gig. The warmth, depth, range, grind....was all I could ever want. The sound engineer told me that it may have been the best I ever sounded.

If you do check out how different the REDDI signal level is in the software compared to the others?

There is so much more harmonic content with the REDDI that you can actually see the sonic impact.

Last night I had a gig 3 hours away and decided to go small and took a small combo and the REDDI. After last night, the REDDI will go with me every gig. The warmth, depth, range, grind....was all I could ever want. The sound engineer told me that it may have been the best I ever sounded.

Yeah, it's a magic box. I did, however, quit bringing it on fly gigs. I had a close call after having to gate check it so I bailed on the fly gigs.

I had one for quite awhile and sold it here recently and regretted it immediately...had a brand new one show up at my door yesterday because the thought of spending the next couple of weeks in the studio without it didn't sit well with me...needless to say, I won't make that mistake again. For live gigs, it rarely makes it out (use the JDI) but in my home project studio and any studio gigs, my basses will always be running through the big bad red box of love! The simplicity and tonality are perfect for me and although I wish it was smaller and lighter it is what it is and I accept that. As for the "Really Worth it?" part, in my eyes and ears, it absolutely is!!!

Check out the RNDI. It's definitely not a REDDI but it's got that warm overtoney Neve thing going on. I got my cable around my foot and pulled the REDDI off a 1x15 cab two or three months ago. Kinda caught it with my foot before it hit and no harm done but I decided not to use it on bar gigs anymore. The Neve has gotten excellent soundman reviews everywhere so far.

Nice! Half considered it but I've been either bringing my Countryman and plugging it into the speaker out of whatever SVT I get supplied, or just using my SCR-DI or VT Deluxe instead. I already own them

Yeah the Neve is great but if I already had a SCR-DI I probably wouldn't bother. Listening to it with headphones through a mixer I was impressed with that thing as a DI and as a preamp.

Have it and really like it. It was my first DI, so I wasn't ready to pop for the REDDI, and after listening to some sound files, it sounded really warm. Fair price too.
