    Marshall origin 50h for bass?

I definitely prefer 50w and 100w all tube guitar amps for bass. I’ve had actual bass amps (Peavey Alpha Bass, Hartke 2000…good amps) but I’ve found most modern bass amplifiers focus too much on low fundamentals at the cost of mids and low-mids, which is really where we humans can hear better...

    Bugera 1960 Infinium - Reliability

Hey folks, I’m about to pick up a Bugera 1960 Infinium this weekend with the intention of making it my main rehearsal and gigging amp. I’ve had Marshall 1959SLP heads in the past and they made wonderful bass amps! Their price now is just stupid, but the Bugera 1960 is supposedly a great copy...

Speakers that are BOTH 8 and 16 ohm

That makes sense. Thanks for the replies!!

Speakers that are BOTH 8 and 16 ohm

I just read this from an Audioheritage.org thread from a guy asking about a JBL D-130F labeled 8-16 ohms. Posted by hapy._.face: “JBL put 8 ohm on the foilcal and it would test for an 8 ohm speaker. JBL would put 16 ohm on the foilcal and they still test out as an 8 ohm speaker! So JBL just...

Speakers that are BOTH 8 and 16 ohm

To be clear, I don’t own any speakers labeled “8-16 ohms”, I’ve just seen them. I wouldn’t think they could actually be both, especially since the ones I’ve seen online are said to read between 10.5-11 ohms. I would guess that, since amplifiers are tolerant (to a point) of a slight impedance...

Speakers that are BOTH 8 and 16 ohm

Hey guys, I’m sure some of you have seen some older speakers that show an impedance of “8-16 ohms”. Some older JBLs were labeled this way, as well as some Rola and CTS speakers. The last few I’ve seen read from about 10.5 to 11-ish ohms. I haven’t seen any speakers made in the last 45 years...

JBL D140F (I found two NOS)

Hi Aged Horse! I’m new to the forum but I’ve read your posts for a long time. Harvey Gerst has stated a few times that the “F” stood for Fender. It does make sense, the same as the “S” in D15S stands for Sunn. Since Harvey was the guy who developed the F-Series I’m inclined to believe him...

JBL D140F (I found two NOS)

According to Harvey Gerst the D stood for the metal dome, the “F” in D-130F, D-140F etc “originally stood for Fender, since they were the largest purchasers, and at one time, the distributor for all the JBL guitar speakers.” Then there’s the D15S made for Sunn…even though it was just a...

Small bar gigs .. 200W enough for stage volume?!

Great thread! I love all the stories of relatively low powered tube bass rigs being more than adequate for live performance. About 20 years ago my band played at the Tuff Rock Music Festival in Bishop, CA. We were an R&B group and I was playing a Rickenbacker 4004 Laredo through a ‘71 Fender...

How many have had amps over 10 years and still use them?

My newest bass amp is a Hartke 2000 Transient Attack head. Not a “new” amp by any means, but newer to me. Bought it around mid 2019 so I didn’t have to use my 1971 Fender Dual Showman Reverb all the time. But…I keep going back to the Showman. I traded a Marshall 100w 1959SLP for it back in...

    Anybody have a Sunn 6x12?

I’ve seen pictures of them with Alnico magnet speakers but couldn’t tell what brand they were. I’ve seen Jensen C12Ns in one but they didn’t have aluminum dust covers. I’m sure that Sunn, like Fender and others, used whatever they could get for a decent bulk price.

    Anybody have a Sunn 6x12?

The flat baffle style that came with the 1200 tube head.

    Anybody have a Sunn 6x12?

I know some of you out there have been fortunate enough to pick up a vintage Sunn 6x12 cabinet with the original speakers, and I know that both Eminence and Jensen supplied speakers (specifically the Jensen C12N). But I’m curious as what the speakers were that had the aluminum dust covers with...
