I think your theory is spot on. Its not the wattage (theres enough) its the area of the speaker cones, and the air moved. If you double the speaker cone area at the same output power, should be a 3 Db increase in volume. Twice the air.

Maybe opening the porting 25% or more will 'free up" the cabinet, allowing for increased speaker cone travel at the high power levels. I opened up a 15" peavey cabinet and noticed a big increase in speaker cone efficiency at 80% power and up. Would need to do some calculations on the internal...

Agree. I needed more versatility too, than p-bass or jazz sounds. This also gets pretty close to a ric-tone for the money. (Roundabout?, anyone) Slap tones are excellent. The quilt top is gorgeous.

Hold out for a 700 or 750QM. Mine was $500 used. People are hanging on to them but a few are still around,the finish is amazing, a better investment. The best bass I ever owned.

The GK back line (250, 350, 600) series have some issues and don't last. Power supply mainly.

Had a similar problem. 15" front ported cabinet Distorted at hi volumes. Added internal back bracing and cut additional 3" back port. That solved the problem. The plastic jack plate could be the rattle, and none, or too small port could cause speaker distortion.

70s era Nos Sylvania or g.e. 12ax7wa or 12au7 are excellent and can be found on eBay or antiquelectronics.com. I have a couple dozen left I am keeping, but i put in all my guitar amps and improved the tone quite a bit.

Hi, my 2 cents. I have a few squire basses, and on a budget look on EBay. C.l.' etc for the Korea "E" squires (E7-N6xxx). Cheap and sound very good. My E7 bullet bass is amazing. Also there is a SUB by music man import for $299. Also a Atk series by Ibanez that does Ric tones well. Rock on..
