If a tree falls in the forrest do pickups actually make a difference

I did get it second hand but the person that owned it never played it so I doubt it was re wired from stock. The cap value is interesting because I did take it to a guy to check the caps as I had an idea of changing them but he didnt think it was a good idea. I'll check wat is in there...

If a tree falls in the forrest do pickups actually make a difference

Interestingly, I started this post because like JimmyM I have a fender p lyte that is amazing to play but sucks when plugged in. I loaded it with SD quarter pounds...and it still sounded thin. As you all know quarter pounds in most basses do not sound thin. So next I replaced the preamp with...

If a tree falls in the forrest do pickups actually make a difference

So the general consensus is if I made a bass out of mdf board it should make hardly any difference if it's loaded with good pickups and has a nice neck?

My seymour duncan turns up this week.... Thanks for all the thoughts on elements that make the tone of a bass. Interesting thread....

drum and bass.....METAL drum and bass

Its an awesome idea. Like someone already said Om is a good example. Al Cisneros is god! Something heavier would work well. The thing is when u use distortion or overdrive with a guitarist u lose half your sound. Just bass....u could distort the hell out of the bass and not be lost in the mix...

I have now ordered new pickups for my fender. Will be interesting. I think the thing I have picked up here is the tone that I am not happy with may well be the neck/fretboard wood. Once I have my sd basslines and preamp all working then if I still have the brightness that I cant get rid of, then...

If a tree falls in the forrest do pickups actually make a difference

Wow. I think the body wood is the surprise so far. I guess to a degree it depends on the genre but would have thought this to be higher. And yes I forgot strings...but I was thinking more the non consumables.

If a tree falls in the forrest do pickups actually make a difference

So todays question; Various elements make up the sound of a good (or bad) bass. Being in the finance industry (sorry!!!) I like to add numbers to things. If you had to put a percentage to each major item that makes up the tone of a bass what would you allocate? Body Pups Bridge Neck Preamp /...

    Audere classic 4-band

Hey....I'm actually in the process of pulling a stock fender jazz preamp out of a custom bass I have. In the past I haved used seymour duncan pres with kind of disappointing results. Maybe a change is in order?

    Alternatives to AGRO

I run bot the tech 21 vt bass and the boss OD 3. By themselves neither cut the mustard but together I found them to be as close to what I am lookong for in bass distortion. Mind you I have to have them next to each other to step on at the same time...need to do something about that...
