    Fender Frankensteins

I put more complete build information, and my gripes about the GFS body, in these threads: http://www.talkbass.com/threads/any-advice-for-a-frankenbass-p-build.1068403/ http://www.talkbass.com/threads/a-word-on-gfs-bodies.1070175/ The neck pocket was a mess. Took considerable sanding on both...

Any advice for a frankenbass P build?

Here we go, 100% now. Got a manageable drill bit and grounded the right way, added bridge cover anyway. Thanks again for the great advice.

Any advice for a frankenbass P build?

Great minds, Mike... got one on the way. Actually I intend to fix the hole, but need to pick up a different bit. I had a crazy 28" bit or something like that I couldn't keep at a shallow enough angle. Thanks, by the way.

    Fender Frankensteins

Submitting mine, thanks bulldog. This is an '09 CV Squier neck, GFS precision body, Fender '62 RI pickup and a Wilkinson bridge. Wearing Fender flats, naturally. Just "born" today!

    NBFD (New Frankenbass Day!)

Thanks! Dig that LPB Tele bass. I had a LPB SX Jazz (with matching headstock!) a decade ago and still regret selling it. I see you're in AZ, too. I spent four years in Tucson and loved it. Would still be there if my family wasn't in the opposite corner of the US… the 2,500 mi drive was...

Thanks, man! Where do I sign up? :)

    NBFD (New Frankenbass Day!)

Sure. The side gap is as much my fault as the body's - I was annoyed at having to take off about 3/16", so took it off pretty aggressively. The "mickey mouse" routes are also mine - needed them to get the corners in.

    NBFD (New Frankenbass Day!)

Yes! Short story is that it sucks, but I really wanted to put this bass together today and decided that the body wasn't a complete ripoff at $50. There are flaws all over the thing - dings, dark spots in the paint, none of the curves are as smooth as they should be. The "Fender standard"...

    NBFD (New Frankenbass Day!)

Started and finished this build today: GFS body, Squier CV neck, Fender '62 RI pickups. Digging it so far. Not entirely happy with the GFS body or my neck fitment. Screwed up the bridge ground hole as well so for now I'm accomplishing that with copper tape.

Any advice for a frankenbass P build?

Guys, thanks again for all your help. Completed the build today, and I'm pretty happy with it. The GFS body kinda sucked, which I detailed in another thread, but not badly enough to send it back. The only real issues I encountered were that my super-long drill bit was unwieldy and started...

    A word on GFS bodies

Hi all, I ordered a GFS body for a parts build, thought it might be helpful to share my impression. I did a bit of research here before pulling the trigger on this one, a precision body in Ivory. Add mine to the "mixed" experiences here. I found a bunch of flaws right away, but decided...

Any advice for a frankenbass P build?

Whoa, that's a lot of good information. Thank you. The Wilkinson looks very much like a regular vintage 4-saddle. I grabbed it because it had brass saddles at about the same price as the usual Asian knockoff bridges: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] Looks like five screws on this one. Good...

Any advice for a frankenbass P build?

Great, thanks! Just ordered up 6' of copper tape. Can you comment on placement/alignment of the bridge? I've seen a thread or two on here but it's difficult to step through without a loose bridge, body and neck in front of me. It is particularly difficult to get this right, or just a...

Any advice for a frankenbass P build?

Hey all, I just spent the morning ordering parts for a P-Bass build. I’ve got two classes wrapping up next week so this is my between-semesters reward/project. I’ve got a Squier VM Jaguar Bass (regular scale) already and wanted a passive P to go with it. I had a lousy experience with...

    Study/books/DVD suggestions for

Hey, how'd you know? Thanks for the advice, it's noted. I'm comfortable enough (comfortable, not necessarily good) with fingerstyle but that's something I hadn't thought of - whatever RH technique bleeds over probably also influences phrasing. Both books are on the way - thanks for the...
