Best rig for no PA support??

I had a mesa boogie d180, with the matching 2-15 cab + an ev single 15 - vmr 10, for cross fire (when needed)... Sometimes we had a small pa mostly for vocals, kik, snare, & a 57 the guitar, I never had that rig over 70%, in most cases less than half volume. A buddy of mine had an svt with the...

Who uses slap in real life?

When I had my Stienberger, I used to slap all the time. It paired with my Boogie rig had an amazing sound, it cut like nobody's business. I could switch from finger style to slap at will, with no eq adjustments... good times !

Alcohol + Gigs = success?.. or failure?

I used to have a couple, but I didn't like to get hammered, not to say I haven't, but I never lost us a gig... but , at times yikes ! The shots would get sent to the stage, then something green, and I'd literally forget what song I was playing. But we did play a lot of super poopy and very...

    What would you recommend?

A lot depends on what your plans are, if you're in an apartment you might want something compact and light duty. I've owned big rigs, but for learning and practice you may have to spend just a few more bucks than you want. I've been seriously looking at the Hartke 35 watt kickback. It has line...

    Which all tube head??

Find yourself an old Mesa Boogie D180, I had one with the Boogie 215 cab, and our sound man didn't have to bring me into the mix until the third set... Also you may find with that hot tube tone the fuzz and distortion boxes may go too, I know mine did.

What Basses have you never actually seen in person or played but are intrigued by?

I used to own one, it was an awesome almost indestructible bass. 4 string, black, punchy as hell in gigs, and recorded very well too... I got it in 85-86; It was stolen in about 1991. I still miss that plastic & graphite piece of magic. It's replacement was a Spector, (didn't have $3600 )...
