Found a Spector bass at a local pawn store.

A very astute observation. It doesn't sound bad at all but it does not sound like a classic Spector whatsoever. It is a pretty bass for their lowest line though. Not a bad buy but you could get a great brand new Squier for that kind of money from FullCompass and not try to fool yourself into thinking it's something that it is not.

NO need to up grade the EMG's. I have two other Jackson's with some nice EMG's. This bass was bought only for the Alice in Chains Covers I am going to be playing and it serves that purpose as is. Does it sound 100% like Mike Starr's Spector? NO but it sounds pretty close and a lot more like one then my Jackson. I have a P bass that can't get anywhere near that tone either.

It could be a Legend classic or a Q4. Either way, they are about 400-500 new depending on where you'd buy it. Then it would also have the Spector branded EMG SSD pups, which are a couple steps down from the EMG HZs you've got in it now. So add another 120 to the cost. You sir got a great deal. Did it come with the non-trim Tone Pump? You've got a great bass that can be upgraded to any EMG 35 pickup and preamp sytem. Plus it has the classic Spector curved body.

Don't listen to anyone else...... Come on over to the Spector club. That bass is as Spector as any other bass. You add a trim Tone Pump and a EMG35 P/DC and that thing will sound like a beast.

NOT sure about the trim pump, how do I check? Want me to open the back and take a photo?

Not that big of a deal. Actually, I was just commenting that regardless of which preamp is in it, it's still a fantastic deal. The non trim is just a plain black box. The Trim version has a little white output adjustment on it. But regardless you got a nice bass for the money.
