Should I talk to the band about this?

While I agree, that no, you are not and cannot totally control a person, you can step up as the lead figure in an altercation. Most people, when in a herd mentality, drunk, or otherwise compromised mental state, will respond to a person asuming control of the situation. It's the same thing...

Should I talk to the band about this?

I have to agree, dealing with drunk idiots is a part of the bar scene. Like was stated earlier, get a few stock one-liners worked up to deter pushy guests. Having been a bouncer myself, and having played in plenty of bars, humor is the best way to deal with most of them. If you can get some...

Well looks like my paycheck stops friday...

Wow, back to your corners, guys... That's the guidance we've received, unless you stay on unpaid furlough, or leave w/o pay status.

I got mine on consignment, and it didn't come with a case. I believe it is a 35" bass, so it's just a tad longer than most basses out there. I used a generic gig bag that i had already, but the fit was a little to tight, and the stitching started to rip. I found a Levy's double bass bag at...

Well looks like my paycheck stops friday...

While I live in VT, and I'm very sensitive to the plight on salamanders, I question the amount of money that was spent on them...

Bought my Proto-J 5er a few years back and I love it. Great slap tone, great fingerstyle tone, and it feels like it just wants to be played. It is a little large and heavy, but it's never been a problem for me, and certainly not a deal breaker.

Well looks like my paycheck stops friday...

As far as I understand it, anyone who is required to continue showing up to work, despite not getting paid at the time, will be paid retroactively when the money becomes available. Those of us who get spontaneous unpaid vacation, sadly, don't. That means any non-essential personell and any...

Well looks like my paycheck stops friday...

Crispy, Here are the basics. Not sure how it is in Canada, but the US fiscal year begins Oct 1. Our congress is *supposed* to have a budget figured out by then. If not, we go into what is called a Continuing Resolution Act (CRA) that, essentially, gives all government entities, including the...

Other bands Leaving after they say not to leave???

I think the point was the hypocrisy of whomever from the other bands told him to stick around out of respect, and then themselves left when his band came up. In which case, yeah, I agree. That is kinda messed up. Don't tell others to do what you won't do yourself.

Mike Huckabee in BassPlayer by Bryan Beller

I really appreciated the article. It was well written, and it put the spotlight on someone who isn't normally seen as musical. His advocacy of music in schools really elevated my opinion of the guy(not to bring any politics into this :fail!:, though I do think that point was integral to the...

    Worldwide Military Bassists Club!

7 years VT Army Nat'l Guard, 40th Army Band, 04-present. 42r9u, best MOS in the army! I had actually considered starting a thread like this, but then I saw someone had done it already! Good to see so many military bass players out there. I heard something about RC soldiers being unable to get...

I am forever haunted by drummer troubles...

Reliability always wins. We actually had to let our previous drummer go because he was such a flake. Nice guy, great drummer, but not reliable.

learning chord tones - but why?

The chords and chord tones have to do with the sonic feel of the music, and the chord tones ( maj 7, dom 7, etc) are what distinguish it from other chords with the same root. A Cmaj chord sounds one way, but throw a b7 on top and the feel really changes! What those tones also help you do is...
