Humans are improvisational creatures. We don’t need to “learn” to improvise but, to answer your question we kind of need to know what music you want to improvise over. Quail improvising is different than blues improvising is different from gamelan improvising etc etc etc. I’m a one trick pony...

Just jazz v/b duos, or with saxophone. My friend Dan had done a bunch of Bach reductions for tenor sax and bass, no libretto there but I imagine there’s plenty of Bach, Purcell, Boccharini, etc that might have. And don’t forget the John Dowland and contemporaries stuff…
