A singer friend of mine wants us to make music together. He’s a countertenor (more in the alto or mezzo-soprano range).
He’s very familiar with the opera repertoire, from Baroque to the early 20th century, but he’s open to other genres or eras.
Personally, I’m quite interested in early music (Renaissance, Baroque), but not exclusively.
Do you have any repertoire recommendations or ideas for pieces that would sound good as a duet?
To give you an idea, so far we've tried Handel's "Lascia ch'io pianga" and Purcell's "Music for a While". Fauré's "Les Berceaux" would be nice, but playing (nicely) the piano left hand part on the bass is a little above my skills.
And have you ever played in a double bass/vocal duo? The examples I know are mostly jazz.
