Well that made me pick the bass up. It wasn't till I'd plucked it a few times that I appreciated the low end. Anyhow, that was more for those of you that actually.. liked bass BEFORE you started it....

Going through high school in band and whatnot, everybody wanted to play in a band. We had all the ingredients: A killer guitarist, a crazy drummer, even keyboard players... Problem is.... There was no bassist. There was plenty of guitarists, i mean, hell, everybody plays guitar. Naturally, none...

I've broken a G string much. And, when I did so, it busted a chunk off the nut. So when everybody's wondering why the bass isn't happening, I tell them I busted the nut with the G string. Hilarity ensues.....

Well, I'm not much for that... tone... But, other than that, I like the playing!

I don't like the idea of trusting the house system to get my tone out there. Some PAs suck. I've been on my own once or twice because of a crappy PA or even none at all. I like to have more than I need, just in case we're playing to a room full of half-deaf senior citizens. Mind you I've done...

While listening to my "100% Funk" CD, I realized that a lot of the bass in those tracks.... isn't slapped. So... there you have it. Funk is a feeling, not a technique, apparently.

"Band looking for bassist. We have a drummer who smokes a lot, a rhythm guitarist who smokes a lot and a guitarist/vocalist who smokes a lot. We'll take frequent breaks from practicing to go out for a smoke. No real experience required. I mean, who needs talent when you have a myspace?" Now...

I think some folks are missing the point of the exercise. Sure, you'll never be the next Victor Wooten if you only imitate people, but unless you use your face to play the notes you're always imitating somebody. Anyhow, "Short Skirt, Long Jacket" -Cake. Its simple but so groovy.

Well.... Some people have it and some don't. I think if somebody isn't terrible they can learn with a little work, but some people there's simply no help for. I know a few rhythm guitarists who wouldn't know rhythm if it came up to them and whacked them in the face with a fax machine...

I agree sort of. The 2X10 would be my choice, but I think there are some better options, especially on the used market. Carvins are kinda hit or miss, from what I can see. Some people love 'em, some hate 'em.

Well, I've gigged with the 505 and its fantastic. Its a really nice bass for the cash, even retail, with the Barts. If you like the tone, save up for that one.
