I can tell you this: the 500 is in a league of its own I am familiar with most current Ibby series (especially SR & EDB) and I don't think there's another similar sounding bass among the rest of the SR line. IMO it offers the best quality/price ratio - you'll get a winner

Well, I've gigged with the 505 and its fantastic. Its a really nice bass for the cash, even retail, with the Barts. If you like the tone, save up for that one. Its a bass you can be happy with for a long time for not that much money. I've often times been amazed by its tone and playability. Take it easy on the finish its pretty easy to scratch, though....

I really like the SR505 that I've had for a few years. The only problem I have is getting a truly smooth (old style) bass sound from it. Its more punch and growly and works well for most music although I'd rather play my Jazz or PJ for country songs. Its hard to get all the growl out of it and there seems to always be a little in there no matter what the knobs are set to. Great bass, easy to play.

Its a regular 9 volt battery. Mine has been in for 8 months.

my battery has lasted a loooong time, but make sure you don't keep it plugged in or it will drain. The Craig list that you linked is an older 505 with a maple neck, has different pups and preamp. I've never played one of the older ones, just thought you should know.
