Do you notice any significant difference with the P pickup on the Jag being .25” closer to the nut than a standard P bass?

I got a used MB500, and it has been working well. At the gig tonight, the signal starting sputtering in and out, half the time not present at all, then fading in very broken/weak, distorted and quiet. Anyone experience this? Repair ideas? Or repair cost guess?

Thanks for your response. Generally I’d never reject a minor bump in lows on a Pbass, so this is not discouraging. I wonder if going with 500k pots would be useful as well
