I have an active 5 string from a few years ago that is actually really nice. Unfortunately, I'm not a huge fan of the string spacing so I'm probably gonna try and sell it in the near future. I used to own a 5 sting neck thru thumb, and for the price, the rockbass isn't too far off from it.

The Op is looking at the Sterling ray 34 vs a MM sr4... With that said, a friend and I were playing stingrays at GC and grabbed a Ray 35 thinking it was a normal Stingray... To make a short short even shorter, I ended up buying a Sterling Ray 35 because, IMHO, they sounded almost exactly the same.

The best I've seen is that CB Basses can build you one for right around $2000
