Genz Benz Shuttlemax 9.2 vs Genzler Magellan/Kinetix

I love my Shuttle MAX 9.2, bought and shipped to Australia in late 2011. At the time it had the most comprehensive EQ section compared to most Bass Amps. Good doubling amp, (wish it had two input jacks) the input buffer can handle piezo and the DI sounds great live or into a DAW.

    Good alternative to a Noble?

I recently recorded in 301 studios here in Sydney, Australia. The in-house tech built a tube DI with a separate power supply. Looked a bit like the Broughton, square box. Sounded great and can get very dirty depending on how much gain you use. It has its uses, I tend to like Solid State.

Anyone chambered a bass to make it lighter, and did it change the tone?

I own a few neoprene straps to help with distributing the load, it helps. I remember when I was touring and playing almost every night I developed what was called 'Postman Shoulder'. I've noticed via watching myself on video that if the bass is a little heavy, I tend to compensate and raise my...

Stanley Clarke playing his Sadowsky Modern in concert.

I first saw Stanley play here in Sydney, Australia, in the mid-70s with RTF. I had his album School Days and took up Bass he's a very inspiring player. Hearing and seeing him always reminds me of my youth. May you live forever, SC.

    Pbass lyte club?

I was given a Fender Lyte Montego Black not working. The preamp had been ripped out and the neck needed adjusting. I made it passive and put a hipshot drop D in. It's a lightweight bass and suits the Tom Petty cover band I'm in. Not keen on the colour but the paint job looks pretty nasty to get...

How important is the “bass pedal” designation?

That looks like a fun pedal, I have the Zoom 70CDR.

How important is the “bass pedal” designation?

I tried the LS2 for a while and in my setup, I found it quite noisy. I sold it and now I find myself needing another signal blend solution. Signal blending is tough, as you are sometimes blending two similar signals. Thus you get frequency banding or masking or boosting. I was never happy with...

Tech21 SansAmp VT Bass – technical review

Is this the VT Bass V2 we're talking about? It works just as the manual explains. The Drive acts as a signal boost at low levels, say, 9 o'clock. Adjust the Level control to about 3 O'clock, character wherever you want, speaker emulation off. Now the +/- 12db Bass, Mid and treble controls are...

POLL: Line6 Helix Stomp or Zoom B6

I've owned the Zoom B6 for a while, had a card/loop issue which they replaced under warranty. All the presets sound good out of the box. You can tweak those and save as new presets. Easy to use screen and menu. The DI collection is really good. Two channels are handy if you double, eb and ub...

    Zoom B6

Update: Zoom replaced my faulty unit. I was thinking of selling it but think I'll keep it.

    Zoom B6

My B6 is in for repairs, luckily under warranty. Be careful if you use an SD Card and only use the recommended cards. I tried a couple of cards I had spare, high quality too and they eventually caused problems with the loop section. Record and playback stopped completely.

    Zoom B6

I used the SD card for drums loops on the weekend for the first time and accidentally double-pressed the play/rec button. You can guess what happened, it started recording and playing back my bass. A cacophony of bass lines throughout Poke Salad Annie. :) Apart from that, the Zoom B6 is a...

Best Flatwounds for medium scale bass?

I have a set of DR Legends on medium-scale jazz, trimmed the silk a little and some of the string winds onto the peg, they sound good.

Where are we with powered (active) bass cabs?

That Mesa TT800 has it all, been checking those out for my next rig. The retail on them out here in Australia is pretty high though I could see it lasting at least 10yrs. My current Genz Benz has lasted 10.
