Is this the VT Bass V2 we're talking about?
It works just as the manual explains. The Drive acts as a signal boost at low levels, say, 9 o'clock. Adjust the Level control to about 3 O'clock, character wherever you want, speaker emulation off. Now the +/- 12db Bass, Mid and treble controls are more evident. If you start with the drive at zero and level on full (assuming you are trying to get the same volume when in Bypass) it will seem like the Bass and treble are boost only. You need to engage the Drive a little, it acts as a gain, albeit with a little breakup.
Of course, being an analogue pedal you won't get a comparable flat response as it's one of the Character series pedals. I owned the Geddy Lee 2112DI for a while and it was tuned to Geddy Lee's taste. I found it a bit dull and lacking top end. That's my 2c

Too bad it's dying again. I'm obsessed with dialling the B15 tone with any and all pedals. In particular I have the BetaV, MBD3, Xotic bass RC and BB, Master Effects Super 200 (which emulates the Orange AD200). I have the Broughton SVpre but would love to get the Fliptop if it ever becomes available.
To my understanding, the B15 has a sharp high cut or LPF, and tight low end or HPF with perhaps a slight bass boost above the filter. And distorted mids maybe?
