    How many use a pick?

100% fingers, I played jazz in school so naturally I started with fingers and all of my favourite metal bassists played with fingers so that's what I stuck with.

How are you recording bass at home?

My setup is pretty simple, bass > MXR DI+ > Scarlett 2i2 > Reaper I'd love the option of being able to mic a cab but the noise makes it unpractical for me.

    Do you need music theory?

I use theory a lot in my playing and writting, so yes I need it. That's BS, there's a tone of great musicians who know no theory.

    Cons of Hipshot Xtender machines?

Maybe the fact that I'm using low gauges doesn't help the tuning although other people I've talked have found the same. Changing the string tension over and over is going to wear the string out sooner or later, it's just a question of if you keep the strings that long.

    Cons of Hipshot Xtender machines?

I've got one on my thumb and yes it slightly effects the tuning of the other strings, it also wears out the string quicker.

    Another string question

They could be Rotosounds, the Roto Bass nickels have no silk and gold ball ends.

    Using a pick

I certainly wouldn't call that normal picking technique for bass but I also wouldn't take bass advice from a guitarist.

A scary setup, and a lesson

Maybe if you'd used a better wrench it would have been the truss rod snapping...

    Case or Gig Bag

Gig bag most of the time because it's easy, goes on my back and leaves my hands free, only exception is if it's got to go in a van with loads of other gear, then it's a hard case.

Stiff vs floppy- where do you feel it? How does it matter to you?

I like low tension with a low action, I find it easier on both hands but you need a light attack to stop it clanking.

Is a drum machine really necessary to learn bass?

Metronome app on your phone is fine, no need to actually buy one.
