Amp/Cab preferences for Rob Allen and other piezo basses?

I've never owned a 2x10" combo or cabinet that could keep up with a dynamic drummer in a sound-proofed rehearsal room. It's typically a speaker limitation, not a wattage issue.

Is the Acoustic Image not loud enough for all applications?

    My Opinion on Reliced Instruments

Martin would have to start by making a D-24. ;)

I haven't followed Warwick basses for years, and didn't even know they switched over to Ovangkol. For what it's worth, I have an Ovangkol back-and-sides Martin acoustic, and it's one of the best sounding Martins I've ever owned (and I've owned a ton of them). Sounds better than most of my...

Good to know. I always assumed that wenge was super stable, since Warwick clearly loves it. I've always had blind faith in German products, which probably isn't smart in this day and age.

The 5-string Caspar I owned had Aguilar DCB soapbars, with passive electronics. Those pickups sat in a live mix as nicely as any pickups I ever owned. And while the tiny bass looked like a toy from the future on me, it was a joy to play. BTW....what structural issues do wenge fingerboards have?

    Musicmaster pickup

I'm a Rob Allen obsessive. I have never seen a Lace Sensor Strat pickup in any of his basses. If he did it, it certainly wasn't in a lot of his basses. I have a super rare Rob Allen guitar, and like most of his basses, even that has pickups he wound himself.

I think that's the reasonable take. Having read a couple hundred pages of this thread, it seems that the majority of people are happy with their Maruszczk. It also seems that your chances of getting something wonky with your Maruszczk are considerably higher than most custom builds. But Adrian's...

That phenomenon goes both ways. Some people will unreasonably defend a product, ignoring the negatives. 'Brand loyalty'

I don't like the 18mm spacing either. I think for now I'll hold off and see if I can find a used Streamline 4 string. One of those could probably fall completely off my motorcycle and just shake it off. ;)

What was wrong with your friend's Jazz 5? The big companies have pretty stringent quality control. You might not like how they sound, but I've never seen one with wonky pickup cavities, unfinished fretwork, unmatched hardware, uneven binding, cracked tops, etc.. Even custom stuff. I don't...

The headless Cazpar that I bought used was pretty sweet. I thought that one was built really well, played great and sounded great (it had Aguilar DCB's in it, with passive electronics). It had the bridge issue, but that's a hardware issue, not a build issue. I only sold it because it was a...

Thank you, this is the kind of stuff I needed to hear. Looking back over the thread I see there were problems that caught my attention 5 years ago. I guess I needed the reminder. I'm OCD and definitely wouldn't want the flaws you mentioned. I guess I need to look elsewhere for my small...
