Dunno if this helps but I have played my fretless MB-2 in a big band for years now with lots of positive responses from listeners. The tone is perhaps not ideal for Tower of Power style tunes but it’s good enough to not bother with switching.

I'm thinking of getting a compressor to use with my MB-2 fretless five string. Is anyone using a compressor that works well with the piezo? People mention a HPF here sometimes. Is that intended to tame the attack of the low notes and generally to even out the notes from a piezo? Is a HPF preferable to using a compressor? Thanks for the help for an old guy that has not used pedals before.
With mine I've used both EBS Multi-comp and the Cali 76 compressors with great results.
A compressor doesn’t care whether or not the input is from a piezo. It will help to even out the dynamics of your playing, raising soft notes and suppressing loud ones. Most of them operate across all frequencies (unless designed otherwise). An HPF removes the lowest frequencies that tend to be inaudible but rob your amp of the power needed to reproduce them. It can help clean up a boomy room. Either of those devices has some advanced tricks, especially a variable HPF, but those are the basic functions.
I tend to use both, though I don’t use much if any compression with my Allen bass. I do like the way the variable HPF tightens up the lows in most venues and works interactively with the amp’s bass control.

34 inch MB-2 sweet fit in Serek small/medium case..
Was that a custom order? I didn't think they offered the MB-2 in 34" scale.
Almost every 4-string MB-2 I've seen is 34" scale. I've had 2 of them. I'm not sure about the 5-string version.
