That picture answered my question about putting a hipshot extender tuner on a five string. It looks like a tapered B string, so I gather the tuner is to move the note to a low A? How did it sound? Otherwise, I could maybe see someone putting an extender on the big string if it were tuned EADGC...

I called carvin about this the next day. One of the sales people told me that this is how Bromberg prefers to wire his bass, and I should just "rock out" Bromberg style. I was also told that if I like, I can reverse the wires on the pan knob myself and the mod will not affect the warranty.
