Bought my first-ever Fender P-Bass tonight

I am a J player for over 40 years. I have some clones too (Tribby and Bacchus). Never thought about a P until very lately. Something is missing in my culture. I want one now. I think I will try to trade my Pedulla MVP against a P, since I seldom use it, for aesthetic reasons (I look like playing...

What Bass and Amp did you use in the 70's

I started with a German Klira violin bass (with a brokenhead "repaired" with a screw) and borrowed amps. I was dreaming of a Gibson EB-0 or 3 like Jack Bruce, my Idol at that time, but I bought a Fender Music Master bass from a friend, so happy to have at last a supposed to be "real thing" and...

    G&L JB-2 average weight?

My Tribby is 8.8 lbs, including a light canvas (?) straP. It's the model with a maple fretboard. It sounds like an excellent Jazz Bass. Fretwork is very good and I felt compfy with it zt thr first moment. It's my n° 1. I prefer it to my all original 73 JB.

Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass vs Fender Duff Mckagan Signature Bass

There are several second hand Aerodyne Jazz at: www.ishibashi.co.jp/u_box/e/ also with color and/or options you cannot get in Europe or USA. Service of Ishibashi is second to none. I have ordered several basses to them. They even advised me that one bass I wanted to order had some neck issues...

The Bass That Got Away You Want Back

I 've only sold 3 basses in my life and have been stolen one, by somebody I knew. My first bass, a Klira copy of Hofner violin bass does not leave any regret, my second one, my first "real bass" was a Fender Music Master. Sold it to buy the jazz bass I still own. The bass I've been stolen was a...

Why do you play bass ??

I can't remember, it's so old now. Probably because I found something was missing in the sound of a guitar and because it looked easier. Today, I feel like being a bassist, either on a bass guitar, a double bass, or when singing. I can't live without it. My only regret is that it's too late to...

What 'high end' basses do you just tend to ignore?

I did not mean that Alembic are not good basses. Everything in them is awesome. I just mean they do not do for me, since they are too complicated (imoh). I have otherwise much admiration for the skill of craftsmen who build outstanding instruments. I could compare that to sailboats. I am in love...

    Fender P Dilemna

If it's a matter of neck width at nut, you may check Lakland Duck Dunn or G&L LB-100, which, I think, are 1.5" at nut. They may be uneasy to find at your local dealer. If it's a matter of sound, you may, why not, check the PJ combination (Fender Aerodyne, G&L SB-1 or SB-2, American Deluxe P...

What 'high end' basses do you just tend to ignore?

I ignore Alambic : Much too much electronics, switches and pots. For me passive electronics and a max. of 4 pots, 2 switches are a must. If I want/need a pre, I prefer it to be outboard

Best Color for a Bass Guitar?

I love my G&L Tribute JB-2 though I don't like sunburst. I love my Skyline Hollowbody though I find shoreline gold ugly I love my Bacchus semi-hollow JB though I don't dig natural ash that much I don't like tortoise pickguard of my 73 Jazz Bass and my Edwards uknown model. The important thing...

    Which Precision Bass?

Thank you guys for your answers. I think I will go for the MIM. If I don't feel comfy with the wide neck, I still can buy a replacement J Nk.

    Which Precision Bass?

I've never owned a P bass. I've been playing mostly Jazz Basses and Jazz Bass clones. I think that a Precision is missing in my arsenal. I hesitate between a new Squier Eva Gardner Sig. for the thin neck or a used MIM Standard precision, for an equivalent cost. Please give me your opinion.

    Semi Hollow-which one?

It depends of many factors, as always. Main is which scale : short, medium or long, second is budget. I am a jazz bass guy, so my opinion is oriented. I own a skyline with barts (one of the 2 available in Europe at the moment I bought it). It's a great instrument. I've quickly tried a starcaster...
