Fretless: sound difference between Ebonol and wood?

When I bought my first fretless bass two years ago, the local music store only had one in stock, which I tried out. It was love at first sight, and I bought it immediately. It's a Fender Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass and has an Ebonol fingerboard. I'm not entirely satisfied with the...

    Jeff Ament‘s strings

Alright, this sounds like good advice. This could also be a good moment to exchange the pickups in my bass. It came with Fender's "Duncan Designed JB101". Ament uses Bartolini 94-Js which are a bit more expensive. So I consider the 'working class Bartolinis', aka DiMarzio Model J (DP123).

Are DR Sunbeams NLR-40 somewhere similar? .040, .060, .080, .100 Nickel Plated Steel Roundcore Compression wound They are not exactly cheap on this side of the pond, but easily available.

So, what exactly are these SR2000‘s? Hexcore, roundwound steel? I can only find some marketing bla on the manufacturer‘s website which days something like they use many layers or so. They don’t even mention the material.

I only found Notes about his strings here: https://www.angelfire.com/la/ament/equipment.html https://images.equipboard.com/uploads/source/image/130682/9288AF21-8DCD-4D72-B3BF-BD9413BA5700.gif

If I look at the usual sources, I find out that he uses Dean Markley SR2000 strings. Here in Europe they are hard to get and very expensive. I used them for a while, but I'm looking for an alternative that delivers a similar sound and maybe a little nicer to the fingertips. I play a lot of...

I‘m a fretless player, I can do that.

I can tell you how to reboot the lead guitarist AND the singer: Hide the power cables of the guitarist’s pedal board and amp in the singer‘s bag. Watch and enjoy.

    IK TONEX pedal

Exactly. All these multi-effect-monsters give me the impression that I have to program a video recorder like in the 1980s or change BIOS settings on a 1996 PC. My suggestion: It's not enough to build far too small displays into pedals, it's not enough to assign buttons twice and three times...

    Pearl Jam Tribute band?

As a PJ fan and still a beginner, I am starting to play fretless and love it.... but it's both fun and a lot of work to master this. I won't buy a 12-string for sure. A fretted 4-string and a fretless 4-string are enough. Mastering the sound is another thing. Is there an affordable...
