IK TONEX pedal

Well I dove head first and and now swimming in the Tonex waters. In the last few weeks I purchased both a Tonex One and regular Tonex pedal with a few extra captures from Amalgam to play with. After much playing around there is plenty to make some really good bass sounds. I am using this for both guitar and bass. The Tonex One will be dedicated for my live bass setup, while the Tonex will be something I use for bass and guitar.

The trick for was to find a capture for a model head that would be something I am interested in. I have found the IR's where you need to put a little work into for bass since there aren't a whole lot of the for bass and Tonex. While fooling around with different IR's, I noticed that Tonex has Virtual IR's and this is where you can take a capture that isn't exactly hitting like you want and sculpt it into your desired sound. Playing around with the mic positions really helps tune it in just right. Since I like the SVT 810 in concept and real life, I decided to use that as the bass speaker model, then it's just a matter of adjusting the mics to personal taste to really dial in your desired sound. I have been doing this with only bass captures so far since that is where the captures are lacking in quality or depth.

That said, Tonex One with my two main sounds are going to be my primary live sound in the future :)

Received a One yesterday, this mini version is going to be great for grab and go commuting.

It’s my second venture into Tonex. As the last time I find it difficult to navigate to try a zillion presets, but I’m into it.

Any (free) presets recommendations?

Also, what other pedals are you using with it? Does it play well with other dirt?

forgettaboutitt... gave up. I really hate to mess with screens, menus and knob combinations.

Wish we could edit or delete posts.

Does the tonex one take pedals in front of it well? I’ve got an axe FX 3 but lugging that beast to rehearsals is a pain, so I’m thinking of getting a tonex one to just profile the two main bass sounds I use and then make a mini rehearsal pedalboard of tuner -> compressor -> tonex one. Right now I’m playing in a Metallica cover band and we don’t have bell tolls or anything that needs fuzz in our set lists, so no need for anything fancy for rehearsals.

This would totally work IME.

This is exactly how I am using the Tonex One. I have two sounds and swap between them. I will say that I used to have a limiter always on, and I find I don't need it anymore. The capture being used and input gain will determine how well the capture takes pedals. I haven't had a need in my current band to use much dirt pedals, so I have not tried, but I have heard from another guitar player that Tonex does pretty good at taking pedals in front.

Another cool thing is you can find captures with dirt pedals already set an utilize that instead having another pedal in front. And what they don't advertise is that you can actually set it up for three sounds to switch between, but you have to set every time you power it on, still cool.

And, if you want to hear it action, I just posted a video of my band covering Barracuda on the "YouTube and Social Media" forum. The signal path was Bass -> Zoom MS-60B (Tuner only) -> Tonex One -> Markbass LMIII -> pre-EQ DI to PA and I am using a Carvin BRX 410 cab. You are hearing mostly PA

My chain would just be tuner -> cali76 -> Tonex one so it would be easy. I could always just profile my axe fx with a dirt pedal if I need it. My core tone right now is based around the hiwatt so it’s pretty simple.

I’ve got TONEX One and now I’m in IR hole, choosing and swapping impulses that one day are good and then I think nah. It works great with pedals and small Tonex One sits well in the end of my chain. I also did captures of my bass gear and I’m happy that my big boxes are small and doesn’t weight anything,

Hey all,

does anyone here utilize Tonex more as a "stomp box"? My setup is not ampless, but every gig I go from Darkglass XU /w cab sim into FOH. I'm wondering if running a Tonex into my preamp would work or would it make everything just a compressed mess? I got myself the software on sale and already captured a bunch of my favourite VST plugins, like Neve emulation, some drives and cranked Traynor and Ampeg preamps. All without IRs. The captures themselves work great but I can't test em out in my signal chain without a reamp box right now. Thoughts?

Exactly. All these multi-effect-monsters
give me the impression that I have to program a video recorder like in the 1980s or change BIOS settings on a 1996 PC.

My suggestion: It's not enough to build far too small displays into pedals, it's not enough to assign buttons twice and three times or to expect users to press two at the same time during a performance and perhaps also CTRL and F3, it's not enough that you have to control all this electronic junk via computer or even via Bluetooth smartphone app - you should also have to work with DIP switches again.

God damn it, I just want to make music and have it sound good, not take a screenshot or reboot the lead guitarist by accident.
