What kind of strings do you use?

I used Rotosound round wound on my American 1978 sunburst Fender Jazz bass from when I bought it in 1978 (stolen in early 1990s). I have recently put round wound bright Jim Dunlops on my Mexican sunburst Fender 70s re-issue Jazz bass (a doppelganger of the 1978 one except for tilt mechanism and...

    Reading music for bass/guitar

Hi, I am not quite understanding this. Given that all basic major scales and their relative minors have the same intervals tone, tone, semi-tone, tone, semi-tone, tone and tone to octave, if you know one you can work out all the others. Two methods I use are to work in blocks and learn a scale...

the official "Show your basses" thread part 14!

When I got a 1978 American Fender Jazz sunburst I thought I was god. But I have tried to reproduce it homemade (see above) and the mystique has gone. However, the feel of that beast in your hands and the look of the thing is unbeatable. I have not seen a top price recent model that really...

the official "Show your basses" thread part 14!

I had a Gibson EB0 in about 1975 got from America by a friend - classical guitar type headstock - looked gorgeous sounded pants - and to think I could have asked for a 1975 Fender Jazz. Still might get a Epiphone EB3 for fun. Epiphone are much better guitars than Squier. ftlpope

    Exclusively fretless??

I expect that some Ibanez lovers (me not one) will be horrified to see my 1980s Destroyer (£65 off a London market stall) defretted and filled with maple veneer but it was that or never be played - what a useless body design - try balancing it on your knee. ftlpope

Made at home October 2010 to February 2011. (the pale natural one - 1978 copy- has the body referred to in my Luthier post today). ftlpope

how to install a pickup cover?

If you mean the chrome handrest on pre-1980s Jazz basses, I would just take the scratch plate off and check what is going on underneath (I have recently started making jazz basses and Fender replacement scratch plates are a fortune and non Fender rarely fit). The chrome bits look good but they...

    B HEFNER - EDENHOUSE

I bought a one piece mahogany jazz body from this company (based in California) and it was not cheap. It took ages to arrive in the UK and it was 2 pieces the second piece being the bottom inch of the body (dumb or what?). Rather than send it back I asked for a refund and despite promises to...
